Bonnievale is one of the most beautiful towns in the Breede Valley and lies on the banks of the Breede River, surrounded by the Langeberg and the Riviersonderend Mountains. And once a year the town comes to life with the arrival of the Bonnievale Bonanza, when cyclists, walkers, runners and fellow guests to come and enjoy the beauty and joy of festivities in the country side. The festival which is held each year during the first weekend of November is a fantastic town festival for young and old. One of the weekends attractions is a foodmarket at Bonnievale Cellar, which caters for the young and old. With live music, wine, preserves, food on the go , a kids corner, cheese and olives there will definitely be something for everyone to enjoy.
The weekend is also host to both annual bike and mountain bike races. The bike races include a 74 kilometre Road Race, 60 kilometre & 35 kilomtre Fun Ride, while the Mountain bike rides include the Spar 30/35 kilometre MTB Fun Ride & 60 kilometre XCM Challenge Race. The races take you through some of the most stunning scenery in the Western Cape, where you are surrounded by fruit trees, vineyards, the winding Breede River and spectacular mountain ranges. All the cyclists finish on the Festival Grounds where visitors can browse the stalls, participate in some of the other fun events and enjoy the talent of various artists that will be performing whilst waiting for the main lucky draw prize giving.
Visitors are also invited to participate in the 5 kilometre fun run or walk, through Nordale Cellar and vineyards where one can taste some muscadel or grape juice on route. This is a fantastic event where young and old, disabled people and the very fit are welcome!
The Bonanza also includes a beauty pageant which is split into three age groups, Miss Sweetheart 4 to 7 years old, the Bonnie Babe from 8 to 12 years old and the Miss Teenage Bonanza from 13 to 18 years old. The Miss Teenage Bonanza has big prizes to be won and is a great event for spectators too, so head down and support the all gorgeous girls! All girls between 13 and 18 years are invited to enter!
