The International Oriental Dance Festival in Cape Town is one of the largest events of its kind in Southern Africa. The annual event is hosted at the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront and has visitors entranced with its multitude of flexible, curvaceous dancers and their striking attire. The event kicks off with a gala evening where you can enjoy performances by professional International and South African Oriental Dancers. This is followed by a full program of oriental dance workshops where you can learn from some of the worlds best oriental dance teachers and performers. There is also the Fringe Program at the V&A Waterfront Amphitheatre and the Moroccan tent next to the Blue Shed, Craft Market. The Fringe Program sees hundreds of belly dancers of all dance levels, from beginners to masters, from all over the world performing from 10:00 until 18:00 on the Saturday and Sunday. The annual event also hosts a Bazaar where you can buy dancing accessories, jewellery, costumes, food and much more presented by small businesses from within South Africa. The 2011 program includes an attempt to break the Guinness World Record, Most people belly dancing simultaneously. The record breaking event will take place on Saturday 29th October 2011 at the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront. (Everybody who is able do learn and dance Belly dance choreography for 5min, has a Belly Dance jingle belt, skirt or harem pants on. Participating is free of charge. You should just let us know and we will send you a form to fill in all the details which we require from you. An instruction DVD with the Choreography will be sent to everybody who wants to be part of the event on cost of R30. If you want to receive a general certification that you where there, it will cost you R10 and if you would like to have a certificate with your name on it, then it will cost you R20. All this should be ordered in advance, so we know how many certificates should be printed. The International Oriental Dance Festival is a charity event which is held in aid of the Saartie Baartman Centre for (abused) Women and Children Athlone and is organized by Ajsa Samia and Oriental Dance Theatre Palace of the Winds.

The 6th annual International Oriental Dance Festival will take place from the 27th to th 30th October 2011.
