Speedo Ice Swim Africa
The Speedo Ice Swim Africa is an annual event held at the Nuwedam in Fraserburg in the Northern Cape. The swim will take place on the 23 July 2011. To qualify for the International Ice Swimming Association (IISA), swimmers have to complete a 1 mile Ice Swim in waters that are 5 degree Celsius or less. Funds are raised by the event for community projects. The race is also an opportunity for swimmers to participate in the 600 metre endurance swim to prepare for the actual ice swim. This year a maximum of 50 swimmers are expected to take part. A compulsory medical examination must be taken by all contestants. The Ice Swim is a unique event and is fast becoming popular amongst locals and visitors.
