Bilton Wine Estate
Settled in the heart of the world famous Stellenbosch wine region of South Africa you will find the Bilton Wine Estate. An old-world wine estate that covers 377 hectares of the fertile slopes of the majestic Helderberg Mountains. The first vines were originally planted in the area in 1726 but over the years the farmers started using it for the production of other fruits and vegetables, as well as grapes. One of these farmers was Don Bilton who emigrated to Cape Town in 1957 from England with his family. Don Aquired the farm in 1959 but it was only in 1996 when his son Mark took over that the decision was made to replant the vineyards and turn it into an award winning wine estate. Mark used satellite surveys and soil analyses to identify the unique micro-climatic conditions on the farms slopes and decided to only plant grape varietals that suited the terroir. Today the estate produces exquisite boutique wines that are rich and complex and Mark and his family invite you to come and visit and share their wines with them!
Bilton Wine Estate offers a unique wine and chocolate tasting experience where visitors are invited to savour the irresistible tastes of rich Belgian chocolate perfectly paired with their acclaimed wines - all in a gracious, old-world setting. They pair the layered aromas of white peach and passion fruit in their 2010 Sauvignon Blanc with a guava-and-pear-infused white Belgian chocolate and the masculine delights of tobacco and tomato leaf in their 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon with a mocha-infused dark Belgian chocolate. They ensure you that you will find each one of their wine and chocolate pairings imaginative and tantalising.
Bilton Wine Estate also give you the opportunity to tour their vineyards and experience the majesty of the Helderberg Mountain while a guide directs you through the expanse of vines that stretch up the mountainside. The tours are available during opening hours, departing from the cellar.
In summer the estate is open from Monday to Friday, from 9:00 to 18:00. Saturdays from 10:00 to 17:00 and Sundays from 10:00 to 16:00.
During Winter the times change to Monday to Friday, from 9:00 to 17:00. Saturdays from 10:00 to 16:00 and Sundays from 10:00 to 15:00.
The restaurant, Vintage D vine offers you the experience of sampling the sweet-savoury flavour combinations of traditional Cape cuisine for breakfast from 8:30 to 11:00 and for lunch from 12:00 to 15:00.
