What makes us Eco?
We have our very own sustainable, renewable, clean source of energy. Our electricity comes from our 5KW wind turbine. We run off 20 x 12 Volt batteries.
What's better than having your own sustainable water supply directly from your own land? We have a borehole situated at the bottom of our land as well as water collection tanks. We do get municipal water supplied to us but it is not a reliable source at all times. We therefore make use of all available sources of water and save municipal water where possible.
Eco Friendly Cleaning Products
We use eco-friendly cleaning products from EcoSmart. EcoSmart products are manufactured in South Africa and are so eco-friendly & effective that they are fully endorsed by the credible Wildlife & Environmental Society of SA (WESSA) and are used by the South African National Parks.
We are able to recycle the following materials:
Upcycling is the process of converting old or discarded materials into something useful and often beautiful. We try up-cycle as much as we can by using tins, glass jars, wood etc. and you will see these in different areas of our lodge, from toothbrush holders to cutlery holders and plant containers - all hand made with love!
We love our community and are very blessed to have such wonderful people accepting us into their lives. We therefore love being able to give back! We employ 8 local members of the community at our lodge and we help create small businesses. We have sponsored a local spaza shop in the area and all our cushions in the lodge are made by local ladies and sold in our shop along with other local beadwork. We have many community projects in the pipeline such as a community garden, continuing to help our local school, supplying the community with water and continuing to grow the community with workshops such as bead making.
Our Lodge's structure and garden
We have built traditional Rondavel structures with a modern twist so they blend into the community and its surroundings. During the building process, local materials, and many local workers were employed over a 12 month period. Our gardens are a never ending project but we only plant indigenous plants.
