Sea Glass is a welcoming self-catering guest house situated in Freeland Park, a popular suburb of Scottburgh and is just minutes away from a host of popular coastal activities.
From deep-sea fishing and shipwreck diving to exploring the famous Aliwal Shoal or surfing the waves and sunning oneself on one of the glorious sandy beaches nearby – the property having been built specifically for family holidays – will provide you with a convenient and comfortable base to enjoy the many adventures and activities the area has to offer.
The unique open-plan design of the house, making use of the sloping sea-facing plot, leads to a multi-functional and light filled space with a natural flow – allowing family and friends to convene and converse with ease, yet the practical layout still affords privacy when needed. Offering an expansive atmosphere, high ceilings, spacious rooms and wide open balconies as well as spectacular uninterrupted views of Scottburgh main beach – only a few minutes walk away – and a wonderful refreshing sea breeze naturally channeled up through the lush tropical valley in the front of the property ensures that you get that sought after “holiday feeling” .

The main bedroom is situated on the lower ground floor and has dark wooden furniture complimented by crisp white cotton linen dressing the queen-size bed .
There are built-in cupboards, a ceiling fan and lovely original artworks on the walls. The en-suite bathroom is extra spacious and has a free-standing bath, his and hers basins and a stunning, large double shower.
The second bedroom has a queen sized bed, also with crisp white cotton linen to maintain the airy seaside feel of the house, it offers built in cupboards and a small dressing table and ceiling fan and is a delight for early birds as this room has access to the lower veranda where one can enjoy Scottburgh’s beautiful sunrises or take a dip in the splash pool after a long hot day at the beach.
On this level there is a separate family bathroom which has a shower, his and hers basins and a toilet. This bathroom is right next door to the second bedroom.
The third bedroom option is located above the living area in an open plan loft arrangement . This sleeping loft offers a queen-size bed with fresh white cotton linen, ample storage for clothing and a large picture window which overlooks the garden. This room also has a ceiling fan and spare mattresses are available for the kiddies to sleep on.
The loft makes for a great teen pad, or play area or an ideal third bedroom for an extra couple with their younger children. There is a guest toilet conveniently located in the living area just below the loft. There is a futon in the living area as an extra sleeping option if required.
LOUNGE / DINING AREA
The large open-plan lounge and dining area has an open, high beamed ceiling and expansive folding windows and a French door to accommodate the sub-tropical climate.
Furnished with comfortable sofas – the lounge area overlooks the garden and has a fabulous, uninterrupted view of Scottburgh main beach just 500 meters away. French doors lead out to a wide open balcony, fabulous for all day family gatherings or lounging in a beach chair with a good book. For the evenings or to entertain the kids, there is a TV and a DVD player for your enjoyment. Limited WiFi is available.
The dining area has a bar fridge and the dining room table can seat eight comfortably. Open the large sliding window and enjoy sitting at the welcoming bar area which gives easy access to the outside balcony and takes advantage of the beautiful garden and sea views.
The open-plan kitchen has a modern mezzanine design with beautiful granite counter tops and is fully equipped for self-catering. The kitchen boasts a hob and under-counter oven, microwave, dishwasher, combination fridge/freezer, washing machine and tumble-dryer for your convenience and has crockery and cutlery to cater for 8+ guests.
The property has a sizable garden area, great for kicking a ball around or you can relax on the cool shaded lower veranda and enjoy a cocktail or two whilst cooling down in the private splash pool.
As the property was designed for family holidays, there is parking available for at least three cars, safe within the premises and secured by an electric gate and palisade fence. We have internal and external alarm sensors, for your peace of mind – so you can simply relax and enjoy your vacation.
Scottburgh is situated 58km south of Durban in KwaZulu-Natal. It is a quaint village nestled alongside stretches of shoreline washed by the warm waters of the Indian Ocean with white sandy beaches, lush indigenous forests and magnificent rolling hills.
Scottburgh Beach is a hub of activity throughout the year. With shark nets in place and lifeguards on duty all year round, it is a safe swimming beach with a host of fun things to do for the whole family.
Activities on the beach include a super-tubes, mini-golf, canoe hire for along the lagoon, fishing, bodyboard and surfboard hire. During peak season a host of other activities are also on offer.
Scottburgh Beach has a John Dory’s Restaurant on the beach and is close to many other restaurants, bars and shops.
Aliwal Shoal, rated as one of the top ten dive sites in the world, offers you a huge diversity of tropical sea life. The shoal is probably most notarized for the opportunity to dive with the Ragged Toothed Shark, commonly seen at the dive sites “Cathedral” (Depth: 27m) and “Raggies Cave” (Depth 17m) often up to 40 sharks in a single outing.
“Inside Edge” (Depth: 22m) offers a variety of tropical sea life including octopus, cuttlefish, firefish, eels and the odd shark or ray, whilst “Outside Edge” (Depth: 27m) offers viewing of more game fish and the odd Hammerhead or Tiger Shark.
Other dive sites include “Manta Point” (Depth: 15 – 22m) for spectacular seasonal viewing of Manta Rays and “Eelskins” (Depth: 18m) showcasing fabulous fossilized rock formations.
For the advanced diver, “MV Proince” (Depth: 32m) and “Nebo” (Depth: 27m) are two spectacular ship wreck dives with hoards of history to boot.
Golfers are spoilt for choice when on holiday on the south coast with 3 golf courses in the immediate area and a further 10+ in outlying areas.
Scottburgh Golf Course is an 18 hole golf course set in sub-tropical climate and runs along the coastal shore. It is comparatively small with a 5323 metre total length, and boasts five Par 3’s, two Par 5’s and eleven Par 4’s.
Selborne Golf Course has been acclaimed as the ‘Augusta’ of South Africa. The recently revamped 18-hole, Par 72 course has water features at most holes and stunning sea views from 11 of the 18 holes.
Umdoni Park is an 18 hole course over some challenging and beautiful holes and players are treated to the most magnificent ocean views.
