Montanha Lodge in Barra comprises double-storey wood and thatched houses positioned amongst the tropical coconut palms near the lighthouse in Barra, Inhambane.

These self-catering houses offer affordable, comfortable and spacious accommodation in privately owned 3 and 4 bedroom houses.

Both houses have 2 bathrooms (one with bath and the other with shower), kitchen, lounge, braai facilities and single carport. The 4 bedroom house has a large patio with outdoor furniture, separate dining and lounge area as well as a bar in the lounge.

Although the lodge is situated only 400 - 500m from Barra beach (steep walk back up the dune), distant sea views are visible from the upper decks only. The lodge is furnished and equipped for self-catering.

The units are serviced daily and have drinkable borehole water, gas and 24 hour electricity. Local vendors visit the lodge daily with a supply of produce and curios of offer - these range from fresh fruits of the sea (prawns, crayfish, fish, and langoustine) as well as freshly baked local bread/rolls and seasonal fruits and vegetables, sarongs and artwork.

Montanha Lodge is situated in Ponte de Barra, Inhambane, Mozambique approximately 480 kilometers (6 to 7 hours drive) from Maputo. The road from Maputo to Xai-Xai is good and has recently been re-surfaced. However, heading North after leaving Xai-Xai (re-fuel at this point) the road has not yet been upgraded and is badly potholed for approximately 60-80kms. Speed limits are enforced in the numerous towns and speed traps by radar are frequent and are payable in cash immediately. Avoid driving at night on these roads, besides the potholes, many local vehicles do not have front or rear lights.

Once in Inhambane, with the bay on your left turn right at the main road (Broad Road – DA Independecia) continue to the circle and turn right (going around the back of the circle). Cross over a derelict railway line and continue with this road which will eventually bear right (Inhambane airport will be sign-posted straight-ahead). Continue with this road for approximately 20kms until you reach the cross-road with Babalaza Restaurant on your right. Continue straight ahead with the hard sand road (approximately 5km-7kms) and turn right at Montanha Lodge sign-board which is situated with various signboards on right-hand side of road. We recommend that you deflate your tyres to approximately 1 bar at this point as the road to Montanha Lodge is very sandy. Montanha Lodge is situated approximately 1½ km along this lighthouse road on the left hand side – shortly after the Vodacom aerial.

Direct flights from Johannesburg’s O.R. Tambo Airport on LAM are available as well as from Lanseria Airport on Travelmax.
