Visit the Forty Winks self catering cottages in the beautiful Kamberg Valley, heart of Natal's fly fishing destinations, on the new Springrove Dam in the Kwazulu Natal Midlands.
Situated on the Kamberg Road approximately 9.2km from Rosetta, the 143 Hectare farm is a place that offers rest but plenty to do and see as well.
You should find all the information you need on this website but please don't hesitate to call if there's something else you'd like to ask.
We hope to see you soon, enjoy your stay!
Two cottages, semi-detached, with:
The two cottages can be opened up as one house to accommodate max 8 guests, or separated into two cottages sleeping max 4 guests each. We don't accommodate extra persons on mattresses. The full length front verandah overlooks our two trout dams and the central Drakensberg Mountains.
Enquire about our new exclusive honeymoon suite, spacious cottage, privately situated with full views.
Regret no pets, no motor bikes/quad bikes and no motorised boats or jetski's allowed on the dam.
Things to do:
On the farm you'll find Blesbok, Red Hartebeest, Duiker (one hand reared that likes bananas), Oribi, Zebra, Black Wildebeeste and Reedbuck. Occasionally one can see a porcupine and Jackal especially at night.
For the bird enthusiast we have visiting Fish Eagles & Vultures, resident Jackal Buzzard, Owls, Waterfowl and, if you're lucky enough, you might spot a Secretary Bird.
CAUTION! Wild animals are dangerous and cannot be approached, we ask that you don't interfere with the wildlife. The animals can of course be viewed from close up while at the dam. The zebras may seem tame as they are around the cottages all the time but don't be fooled, please keep your distance.
Kindly note: Absolutely no hunting allowed.
Two well stocked trout dams, both rainbow & brown trout. Dams feature annualy in Kamberg Fly fishing Festival.
Rod fee per day, catch and release only (R100 per day per person). Ethical fly fishing only, float tubes permissable.
With time we're told there'll be small mouth bass and trout available in the Springrove Dam.
Hiking and Walks
The Kamberg Nature Reserve is 30 mins from the farm, there's a great hike to some of the best bushman paintings. They have guided walks two or three times per day and a small restaurant with scones, muffins and toasted sandwiches. They also have a small theatre where they show a documentary on the Bushman & settlers in the this area, with more information on the bushman paintings. It's a good day's outing for our longer stay visitors looking for a day trip. [ include website]
You are welcome to walk anywhere on the farm, we normally encourage visitors to see the Inchbraekie Waterfall, the only waterfall on the Mooi River which will be inundated by the new Springrove Dam.
Small boat which can be taken on our dam.
Swimming in summer.
In the near future we believe you'll be able to access the Springrove Dam from the farm if you have your own paddle ski or other non-motorised boating equipment.
Mountain Bike riding
On the property (8km of farm road) and surrounds.
We have approximately 8km of dirt roads and encourage you to use them with 4x4 vehicles only.
