Cuckoo Ridge Country Retreat
Situated in the heart of an indigenous forest this oasis of
lawn and selected trees offers a tranquil setting overlooking a valley of lush
greenery and adjacent fruit farms. The all-weather concrete access road winds
its way through an indigenous landscape with the occasional sighting of Red
Duiker, Bush Buck, vervet monkeys and bands of mongoose.
Relax in the sun by the rock pool or in the shade of the boma with a book from our library, your private covered veranda in your chalets offers views over the Majajekulo river valley. Braai (Barbeque) under the stars listening to the African night, on quiet nights the sound of running water from the Majajekulo river can be heard between the cries of the Bush babies as they go about their nocturnal lives.
Cuckoo Ridge offers 5 chalets, each unique with their own character. Guests have the option of either bed and breakfast chalets or self-catering chalets. Each bed and breakfast chalet has either a king- or queen-size bed, an en-suite bathroom, and a private lounge. Each self-catering chalet has a fully equipped kitchen, an open-plan lounge and dining area, and is equipped with a TV with selected DSTV channels, air-conditioning in the bedroom, a ceiling fan in the lounge, a hairdryer, and tea- and coffee-making facilities. All linen and towels are provided, along with gowns and cutlery and crockery. Guests have access to free WI-FI and covered parking.
Cuckoo Ridge is approximately 26 km from the Kruger National Park, entering through Phabeni Gate, and is approximately 3 km from the Sabie River Adventure Centre which offers river rafting, quad biking, horseback riding to name but a few.
The Panorama Route offers day trip to God’s Window, Blyde River Canyon, Bourke’s Luck Potholes, Pilgrims Rest, and various waterfalls.

Proceed from Johannesburg on the N12 towards Witbank, the N12 will become the N4 on route to Witbank, this is a toll road, with two toll points. The N4 continues through into Nelspruit. On entering Nelspruit follow the signs for White River on the R40, continue through White River following the R40 towards Hazyview, approximately 40km. On reaching the T junction turn left towards Hazyview continue through Hazyview until you see the signs for Sabie, turn left along the R536 towards Sabie (on the corner is the trading post Perrys Bridge) Cuckoo Ridge is 14km along the R536 to Sabie on the left hand side.
Directions : Routes via Belfast
Follow the same route out of Johannesburg, pass Witbank. This route encompasses only one toll point. Turn left from the N4 onto the R540 at Belfast, follow the signs for Dullstroom and Lydenburg, in Lydenburg follow the signs for the R37 to Long Tom Pass and Sabie. In Sabie follow the signs for Hazyview on the R536. Cuckoo Ridge is 30km from Sabie on the right hand side.
Both routes are approximately 4 hours from Johannesburg.
