Ambleside Cottage is situated on the banks of the Little Tugela River, which rises at the head of the Injasuti Valley on top of the Drakensberg Mountains. Ambleside Farm is a working farm, with animals and crops being produced for food production, and is situated on the outskirts of the small town of Winterton.
The Cottage is a double volume building with open plan kitchen and lounge. It is a four bedroom cottage with two bedroom upstairs with one being an ensuite shower room. There are two bedrooms down stairs one with a ensuite wet room the other with adjacent bathroom (linen and towels provided), also serviced daily. There is a large wooden deck (80M2) looking up the river towards the Drakensberg Mountains which is ideal for entertaining, braaing or having sundowners on a balmy summer evening. The covered area of the deck leads through French doors into the open plan lounge, this space is perfect for dining and has water & wind proof blinds in case of any bad weather (see attached photo's). There is also a breakfast bar looking onto the kitchen. Upstairs there is a large covered deck, with water proof blinds.
There is an outside Braai area on the river bank under some beautiful Poplar trees for shade (+/- 30meters from cottage). There is a lovely garden and trees surrounding the cottage, with lots of lawn for picnics and also a firepit to the left of the cottage for outside entertainment and beautiful views on those cold winter nights. In the open plan lounge there is a TV with full DSTV and DVD player, also a Music Center, WiFi ADSL internet connection and a fireplace with wood provided for cold winter nights. All beds have electric blankets.
The small town of Winterton also has many activities to offer from museum, coffee shop, hairdresser, hotel, doctor and shopping. Within a short drive there is Spionkop Nature Reserve, which offers water sports, game viewing and battlefield tours.
On the R74 to the central Berg, there are many interesting attractions, from the Waffle Hut which sells hand woven carpets, has an eatery, well stocked garden center and crazy golf course. Further on is Thokozise, which has many interesting shops, restaurant/bar and tourist information center. From there it is a pleasant drive into the central berg where you can go hiking, do canopy tours, river rafting to golfing, helicopter tours, bird displays and visiting all the many beautiful hotels and establishments in the area. The list of things to do is endless and too many to mention here. So book you're spot and come and enjoy the Ukuthlamba Area, (World Heritage Site) "The Barrier of Spears" that is the magnificent Drakenberg mountain range.
