It is said that the red cliffs between de Rust are the most beautiful in all Africa, and nobody denies that for sheer grandeur there is little to match the Swartberg Mountains... this is where you'll find one of the most amazing tiny lodges in the world - nestled between the red cliffs and the Swartberge... yet just 15 minutes from the bustling town of Oudtshoorn!

Zwartberg View Mountain Lodge is built right at the top of a hill, there are just three chalets, each en suite, with it's own private deck - all overlook a natural amphitheatre, in our own nature reserve, with the red cliffs on one side, and the Swartberge on the other.

Our lodge is an opportunity for those who truly enjoy nature and want to experience the wonders of one of the world's most unusual and diverse ecosystems to do exactly that!... here, there is nothing to upset the peace and tranquility of nature, and of the little karoo as it once was... and yet, less than five kilometres from the lodge and you are back on the main road - to route 62, and only 60 kilometres from George!

Away in the hills lie our three hidden en suite chalets... each of them uniquely furnished and decorated - and each of them styled to match the creature after which they are named:

Each chalet is en suite, has a mini fridge, as much coffee and tea as you can drink, and certainly the most magnificent view on earth!

Down in the valley, a short walk from the chalets you'll find our very unusual base camp, based on the original old workers cottage that was not long ago the only building on the reserve, all be it broken down and derelict at the time. Today you'll find a magnificent deck with a central fireplace, an interior dining area which doubles as our library and guest reception area - alongside it, our exclusive bar where you are welcome to help yourself to whatever you fancy along with all the ice, coldrinks, fruit juices and of course hot beverages you might ever dream of! Here is where we spend our evenings, and of course meet for breakfast!

Throughout the lodge we have endeavoured to create a strong sense of an African dentity... we may be in the Cape, in the little Karoo, but this is still Africa, and we never let ourselves forget it!

Zebra Walk self catering Cottage

Located in a secret spot on Zwartberg View private nature reserve, away from all other buildings and people, set right on a dry river bed with the mountains rising up all around - the self catering cottage is ideal for those who love nature and the outdoors and enjoy experiencing wild countryside up close and Personal!

Zebra Walk Cottage (so named because it is situated on the route the Zebras take to and from the waterhole) is entirely self contained; fitted with an enormous King size bed, and a sleeper couch, there is an inside kitchenette, an en suite bathroom, a deck with comfy armchairs, a proper outdoor cooking station and a raised deck for dining. Further down towards the dry river , through the riverine shrubbery you'll find an open fireplace in a kraal like setting - open to the mountains, and at night, the stars!

Location: Zebra Walk is located just off the N12 19km from Oudtshoorn and 14km from De Rust on the Vergelegen road inbetween the red hills and the Swartberg Mountains.
