Zwakala River Retreat is situated on a privately owned farm in the beautiful
Magoebaskloof Mountains in the Limpopo Province. We offer accommodation and a
unique farm venue. Our accommodation includes a cosy cottage and cabin located
next to a tranquil river.
The cottage and cabin are right on the banks of the Broederstroom River - the
source of the Great Letaba River. The river is perfect for trout fishing, tubing
and swimming and it is renowned for its clear waters and restorative qualities.
Jump into the mountain waters and revive your soul!
There are some great walks from the farm and a number of other hiking trails in
the surrounding area. The area is also ideal for mountain biking and birding -
there are experienced guides and several birding routes. Within close proximity
the famous Cheerio Gardens, an organic cheese farm, the quaint village of
Haenertsburg and the tropical paradise of Tzaneen. On our farm a craft workshop
manufacturing interior décor products from invasive plants and experience the
growing and drying of indigenous medicinal plants.
Accommodation:
Our Limpopo self catering accommodation is simply beautiful and we have chosen
not to have electricity. Instead we believe that the simplicity of candle light
and lamps, steaming hot water from a donkey boiler and a 'lekka' fire make for
romance, talking, dreaming and togetherness.
Legodi Cottage
A two bedroomed cottage which sleeps 4 people comfortably. There is also space
for 2 children on the large built in couches surrounding the fireplace. Fully
equipped with gas stove and fridge, large inside fireplace, outside braai area
and a deck overlooking river. Down duvets keep the winter chills at bay.
Zwakala Log Cabin
A delightful one-bedroom log cabin with on suite bathroom and beautiful views
over the river. The cabin has a covered kitchen area and outside picnic table,
braai and fireplace. An old-fashioned small wood stove inside the cabin keeps it
warm and cozy on cold misty days. Ideal for two adults, but could also sleep a
child with a queen sized bed and a ¾-sized couch bed.
