Willow Glen

The rural suburb of Willow Glen Agricultural Holdings is situated on the Eastern outskirts of Pretoria just to the South of the N4 highway to Witbank. The suburb consists mostly of small holdings and is placed close to the Faerie Glen Nature Reserve. Faerie Glen is a favourite spot for bird watchers and botanists. Willow Glen is well placed for the Menlyn Shopping Mall and for St Alban’s College. Die Deutsche Schule is situated just to the North of Willow Glen.

Pretoria  was founded in 1855 by Marthinus Pretorius, a leader of the Voortrekkers, who named it after his father Andries Pretorius. The elder Pretorius had become a national hero of the Voortrekkers after his victory over the Zulus in the famous Battle of Blood River. Andries Pretorius also negotiated the Sand River Convention (1852), in which Britain acknowledged the independence of the Transvaal. It became the capital of the South African Republic on 1 May 1860.
