Kloofendal

Kloofendal is an upmarket suburb of Roodepoort in the western part of Johannesburg. The Roodepoort region is one of the most attractive residential areas in Johannesburg, offering charming suburbs amid rolling hills, many with superb views of the city to the east and the Magaliesburg to the west. There are plenty of open spaces, golf courses and entertainment areas, as well as what many consider the citys finest park, the Witwatersrand Botanical Gardens.

The suburb borders the Kloofendal Nature Reserve which covers an area of approximately 50 hectares. More than 120 bird species have been recorded in the reserve. Interestingly, the reserve lies on the site of the very first gold mine of 1884, opened before the reef was discovered, and the old shafts have been restored and are now national monuments. Also, walking trails are freely available making it a cultural heritage spot.
