Keurboomstrand

The name Keurboom originates from the Keurboom tree with its lovely purple summer flowers. Keurbooms strand is a very popular venue for fishermen. The resort has camping and caravan facilities.

The Bitou and Keurbooms rivers combine to form a lagoon close to Keurbooms beach. Swimmers can enjoy the tranquil waters of the lagoon, but beware of strong currents at the mouth.

You can explore the Keurbooms River in a hired canoe, or go on a guided tour that last about three hours long, on a motorboat. If you want to hire a motorboat or canoe, you may do so from the local angling club.

Also in the area is the Matjies River Cave. This is the site of a major archaeological find of 200 skeletons and more than 3000 archaeological objects dating back to more than 10 thousand years.

Hikers can explore the Keurboom strand beaches, or visit the Keurbooms River Nature Reserve where some trails are available. On the beach you are likely to find huge piles of empty shells. Just some indication of the staple diet of the previous inhabitants, centuries ago.
