Woody Cape Nature Reserve

The Woody Cape Nature Reserve, formerly known as the Alexandria State Forest, is an 80 km section of the Eastern Cape coastline located between the Bushman's River to the east and the Sundays River to the west. This reserve is now been incorporated into the Greater Addo Elephant National Park.

The vegetation of this region primarily consists of the dune fields of the former Alexandria State Forest, which runs along the Indian Ocean coastline between the Bushman's River and the Sunday's River.

The reserve can be explored by foot via a 7 km hiking trail along the coast. There is also the 2 day 36 km Alexandria Trail, which can be booked through the Eastern Cape Dept. of Conservation by calling (046) 653 0601.

St., Croix Island and Bird Island in Algoa Bay have recently been incorporated into the reserve. These protected islands are now home to nearly 10,000 Jackass penguins and over 150,000 Cape gannets.
