Grootvadersbosch Nature Reserve

There are two hiking trails in the reserve. The 15 km Grysbok Trail passes through the fynbos-covered hillsides of the Langeberg The 10 km Bushbuck Trail explores one of the few remaining patches of indigenous forests in the Langeberg where stinkwoods, yellowwoods, and ironwoods loom over the cool moist forest floor. Look carefully and you might catch a rare glimpse of the ghost frog or the forest emperor butterfly - rare species found only in these forests.

Logging in the Langeberg has stripped the mountains of most of the indigenous trees, which were then replaced with imported redwood, oak and bluegum. But as these alien species are being eradicated, the forest is slowly to returning to its natural state.
