Madikela Game Reserve

Madikela Game Reserve is situated in the Waterberg mountains, a short 2 hour drive from Pretoria, in the heart of the Waterberg Biosphere. Madikela, which means Place of the Setting Sun, and the Waterberg Biosphere are situated on a limestone plateau, which was formed millions of years ago. Over time the Limestone has eroded, forming the most amazing rock formations. The Waterberg lends it to being the most comfortable bush climate in the Limpopo Province and it does this all year around, with the temperature seldom below 5 degrees or above 32 degrees C. The Waterberg is a UNESCO site - the United Nations Education, Science and Cultural Organisation - and has been proclaimed a Biosphere Reserve and is protected by law.

The spectacular rock formations in the reserve have been formed over millions of years and are of great interest not only to geologists but to all visitors of the reserve. Game, such as Giraffe, Zebra, Wildebeest, Impala, Kudu and Blesbuck amongst others can be viewed by self-drive, mountain bikes or self-guided walks. For those wanting to Cycle in the reserve, please not that you need to take your own bike. There are also 2 swimming pools, a large swimming pool in the garden area, and an adjoining baby pool. To make sure the kids are entertained there is also a large jungle gym, 18 hole putt-putt course, as well as a games room with a pool table.

The reserve is home to the Madikela Game Lodge and also has a Bush Camp. The camp has bunk beds with mattresses and ladies and mens ablution, has hot showers, wash basins and flushing toilets. Food in the camp is prepared in a thatched bush kitchen which has a large chest fridge/freezer and chairs/tables. The camp also has an enclosed boma with braai facilities.
