Entabeni Game Reserve

Entabeni Game Reserve

The Waterberg Biosphere was the first region in Limpopo, South Africa to be named a biosphere by UNESCO. And tucked away in this Biosphere is the Entabeni Game Reserve, a 22000 hectare private reserve that is located less than three hours drive away from the hustle and bustle of Johannesburg. The name Entabeni means place of the mountain.

The reserve is made up of five different ecosystems (including grasslands, bushveld, mountains and river bed) and despite the large volume of water in the area, the reserve is a malaria free. The range of ecosystems allows for a rich experience in terms of game and bird viewing and there is a large variety of species to be viewed. Game viewing in the reserve is facilitated by knowledgeable and friendly game rangers who will help visitors to identify the various species. The wildlife experience is impressive with more than 55 mammal species, 300 plants species and 380 bird species, not to mention the wide variety of insects, reptiles and amphibians. There is also a possibility of viewing the Big 5 as lion, buffalo, elephant, leopard and rhino can all be found in the park. Game drives can be booked at the reserve and rangers take visitors out in open 4x4s ensure easy viewing.

For the truly adventurous there are various bush walks available too. The Predator Walks are undertaken by qualified rangers, and Non-predator walks can also be organised. And for those hope to see a little more plant than animal there are also Botany Walks within the Botanical Gardens. Again the reserves trained rangers will show you a variety of plants, animals and birds. If you love horses you may take a short game ride or a longer safari seeing Africa from horseback as the first Europeans did. For the romantically-inclined or those with a head for heights, a balloon safari is also available.

For something special, the helicopter trip is an experience beyond comparison! Visitors get a bird's eye view of the reserve with either a 5-minute or 12-minute flight. Visitors can also combine the exhilarating helicopter flight with a romantic meal on a secluded mountain top and enjoy the indescribable natural beauty of the Waterberg.

To make a relaxing break-away complete you need some pampering and relaxation. At Entabeni spa you are offered a variety of massages or beauty treatments, while enjoying the tranquil backdrop of African Bush. The spa facilities are located at Lakeside Lodge within the Entabeni Game Reserve.
