Selati Game Reserve

The Selati Game Reserve, which is located just north of the Olifants River between Mica, Gravelotte and Phalaborwa in the heart of the bushveld, was first established in 1993 with a vision of developing a premier private conservancy. Selati added more than 30000 hectares to the greater Kruger Park area. The reserve is typical of the savannah grassland biome, with six different veld types offering a great diversity of habitats that support 26 species of large mammal. But the area is perhaps best known for its indigenous Sable Antelope herds.

The reserve has a unique topography with varied and interesting geological formations which can be seen throughout the area. The Reserve is also home to the cycad, Encephalartos Dyerianos, which does not occur naturally anywhere else in the world.

What better place to learn about nature than Selati. The reserve offers a minimum 2 week authentic educational and participatory wildlife experience through a hands on volunteer programme - no tourist frills at all, but high on education and experience of the African landscape and wildlife. The volunteer programme on Selati focuses on the Lion pride, but the other mammal species on the reserve including the Big 5, cheetah, zebra, giraffe and many species of antelope, small and large. The reserve also features prolific and beautiful birdlife.
