Cape Point Ostrich Farm
The Cape Point Ostrich Farm was established in 1996 by Angelika Coelle. What started off as an undeveloped farm and the ruins of Cape Dutch style buildings, has become a very well known ostrich breeding farm in Cape Town, South Africa. The farm lies on one of the most beautiful parts of the Cape Peninsula and is only 50km away from Cape Town which makes it convenient for visitors to enjoy. The scenic drive to the farm is one of Cape Town's most popular routes which leads to the Cape of Good Hope, either via Simons Town or via Scarborough.
The farm is a family run business and has been passed into the 2nd generation and is being managed by the children.
The whole family is invited to enjoy the farm and the farm offers guided tours by a very well trained team. There is so much to see and you will get to learn so much about the life cycle of an ostrich as well. During the breeding season, you might also get the great opportunity of experiencing the hatching of the ostrich chicks. Everything at the farm is done to accommodate the breeding birds. The eggs are incubated and well taken care of.
Another exciting attraction to the farm is the restaurant where you can enjoy a delicious meal and enjoy conversation with friends and family. Ostrich meat is one of the healthiest red meats as it contains the least fat and almost no Cholesterol. You will be able to try a variety of Ostrich specialities from cold meats, liver pate and grilled fillet on the braai.
The Farm also boasts a beautiful leather shop where you will find an exquisite variety of quality ostrich leather products from handbags, belts, shoes, wallets and much more. There is also an egg shop with a wide variety of ostrich eggs. Some of the eggs are beautifully carved by local artists as well as painted and crafted into candle holders or lamps. There is so much to see and enjoy, be sure not to miss out on this great attraction in the Cape.
The farm is open daily from 9:30am to 5:30pm. For more information contact 021-780-9294 or visit www.capepointostrichfarm.co.za
