Durbanville Beer Festival

Durbanville Beer Festival

The folks down at Hillcrest Wine Estate are sending an invitation out to all beer drinkers, band lovers and engineers as they will be hosting the 2nd Durbanville Beer Festival together with Anything that Floats. This fun filled event will take place down at the dam and the Quarry, where they say its the perfect place to enjoy a summers day listening to live bands and indulging in local beer. 2011 will be the second year this event is being run and with attendance in excess of 1500 people in 2010, this year promises to be even bigger and better with more live bands, more beer and even more food stalls. But its not just for the grown ups, this is a family event, with loads of entertainment to keep the kids happy.

As far as the beers are concerned, the team have been working hard to bring you some the best of beers out there; featuring some of South Africas old time favourites while also ensuring as many of the smaller micro breweries are also present. It is a great opportunity to venture out of your comfort zone and try some local brews that are making big ripples in the beer world.

Hillcrest Wine Estate is home to one of the most beautiful event hosting venues, the Quarry. The Quarry boasts beautiful rolling lawns and a crystal clear lake, the ideal spot to host the Anything that Floats race. The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) has come on board this year and will be raising funds with the race in which homemade, muscle powered craft with the maximum of six crew will compete on a demarcated course to become the 2011 Durbanville Beer Festival Champs. The safety of this event will be closely monitored by the Melkbos National Sea Rescue Institute who will benefit from all proceeds of this event. Gates will open at 10:00 so that you can patch any holes in you homemade craft before you set sail, and will close down at 20:00 as the Cape Town sun sets.

There is a huge line up of live bands on the day that will be sure to keep you entertained. Live Rock and Blues bands will keep all entertained with Rock n Roll DJs keeping the crowd rocking throughout the day. Some of the name confirmed for the 2011 Durbanville Beer Festival include Riaan Luyd, Robbie Klay, Rio, Johnny Cash Tribute (featuring Wayne Pauli, Dale Collins and Benji Peacefull), Mark Haze with Bjorn Faree, The Studerbakers and Pebbleman Project with Jessie Jordan and Richard Prior.

The organisers have invited you to pack your umbrella, put on your dancing shoes, haul out the water wings and join the fun on 10 December at Hillcrest Wine Estate for the 2011 Durbanville Beer Festival and Anything that Floats.
