Louis Jooste Memorial Half Marathon

Louis Jooste Memorial Half Marathon

It was a beautiful, clear and cool summer morning at 6am when the runners began the inaugural Louis Jooste Memorial Race in Kimberley on 8 November 2008. The race was organised as a memorial to the attorney, dear friend, husband and father who died of cancer two years prior. Louis loved running and later started cycling after he could not run anymore due to his illness, and 2008 saw a total of 72 runners take up the challenge, raising funds for CANSA.

Today the event which is held annually during the first week of November includes a half marathon, a 10km and a 5km race and is organized by the Kimberely Pirates Club, with all proceeds from the day activities still going to the CANSA organisation. The activities also include a fun run and walkers are more than welcome to enter the 10 kilometre and 5 kilometre races. Entries are taken at 05:00 with the race starting at 06:00 sharp at the Kimberley Pirates Club and all finishers are awarded medals.
