Oudtshoorn Golf Club

Oudtshoorn Golf Club

This par 72, 6210 metre course is a challenging and enjoyable one. The course is said to be a lush green oasis in the arid heart of the Klein Karoo, Oudtshroon. Oudtshoorn is the closest town to the famous Congo Caves and is a very popular tourist attraction. For the keen golfer this course provides an excellent diversion from the usual tourist attractions. The original Oudtshoorn Golf Club was established in 1922 to the west of the town and then relocated to its present address 35 years later. 1963 saw the South Western Districts Non-European Golf Association stage its first ever tournament here. Today it is a well established 18 hole layout that is surprisingly lush and in great condition. Although Oudtshoorn is only approximately sixty kilometers from the coastal town of George it is drier and warmer and makes an attractive and different stop for touring golfers. Pepper, palm and blue gum trees line the fairways and at one point three large pepper trees adorn the middle of the fairway at the 497 metre, par five 13th hole. There is also a large dam to the right of the closely mown area and any notable tee shot must be carefully placed between the trees and the dam.
The club also offers carts, pull trolleys, and golf club hire and has a driving range for practicing. Facilities include a restaurant, bar, halfway house, as well as function facilities. And for the odds and ends you still need just pop into the pro shop.
Visitors are welcome every day and the club is also open on Mondays.
