Fonteinbos Nature Reserve

The Fonteinbos Nature Reserve is situated on the banks of the Kraai River, one kilometer away from the small Karoo town of Aberdeen. The reserve covers an area of 1500 ha, and features a natural spring. The perennial spring, known as "Die Oog" or The Eye, supplies water to the town of Aberdeen , as well as irrigation to a large area of arable land.

The Fonteinbos Nature Reserve is home to a wide variety of wildlife, which includes springbok, kudu, steenbok, ostrich and samango monkeys. The reserve is also home to an abundance of birdlife, which allows for excellent birdwatching opportunities. Other attractions of the Fonteinbos Nature Reserve include fossilized dinosaur tracks, which can be seen in the various sedimentary rock formations. The reserve offers a number of interesting walking trails which allow for excellent game viewing, or alternatively less energetic visitors can make their way through the reserve on a 20 km circular drive.
