Situated on the amazing West Coast of South Africa best known for it's Whales,Doringbaai. To the north is the Olifants River and to the south is Lambertsbay.

The area boasts many activities such as swimming, diving, fishing, walking trails, 4x4 trails, quad bike trails, wineries and open-air or cave restaurants such as "Muisbosskerm" on the beach or "Kliphuis" in a cave or the "Cabin" overlooking the sea sitting on the deck of a boat if the weather permits.

Many of the above activities are seasonal or dependent on flat sea days. A list of the contact telephone numbers for the various activities are in each of the units. We shall advise on who supplies the different trips for Quad bikes and the "Swart Tobie" walking trails in the area.

Or if you wish to just relax to the quietness of Doring and wash away the stress of every day.

Thornbay Accommodation is family owned and run by Peter & Michele who offer fully equipped self-catering units. The units are based on "Sea Themes" and you can choose between the Marlin / Barracuda / Shark / Dorado - are 2 bedroom units Dolphin / Whale - are open plan units Bonito / Garrick - are 1 bedroom units

Some units can accommodate between 2 to 8 people or you can combine the units for small groups. Each fully equipped unit has a fridge / microwave / kettle / toaster / hotplate or larger units a stove / cutlery / crockery / TV with channels 1, 2, 3, e-TV and M-Net / shower, hand basin & toilet and all units walk out onto their own braai area which overlook the small Doringbay harbour and sea. The units are actually situated across the road from the sea (front row). Each evening one can relax with a sundowner and watch the breathtaking sunsets over the Atlantic Ocean. The Doringbaai lighthouse still flashes and warns vessels at sea each evening.

We advise people to bring their own beach towels / refreshments / wood.

On the premises of Thornbay we have a trampoline and swimming pool available. There is also a fully stocked fisheries catering for braai's, such as line fish, crayfish, mussels, prawns, seafood mix, calamari, shrimps, etc. and bait for fishing. This shop also stocks fishing rods and tackle and crayfish nets and diving gear.
