A newly built self-catering house approximately 8kms from the village of
Nottingham Road.
Although the original guest house was established in 2002, Thembela experienced
a rather dramatic change in early 2011 when the original smallholding of 8.4 ha
was reduced to a mere 3000sqm to make way for the new Springrove Dam project.
The old original Thembela houses alongside the beautiful stretch of the Mooi
River were enjoyed by guests and friends for nearly 10 years. These have sadly
been demolished . However, Thembela has re-located 300m from the original
site... boasting ever better views of the Giant and its amphitheatre. The river
is still visible from the newly built quirky 2 bedroomed home which has a
verandah large enough to either spend many hours observing the construction of
this huge dam, or enjoying drinks watching the sun set over the magnificent
Drakensberg.
Being the closest site to the future dam wall , guests are warned that the
construction is ever present from 7am to 5pm weekdays and until 1pm on
Saturdays- leaving the remainder of the weekend to completely unwind and enjoy
the breathtaking scenery. They do, however, shut down on the last pay weekend of
each month from lunch time on a Friday to Tuesday morning. This is an ideal
venue for Corporate mid-week clients and wedding sleepovers or even for those
interested in watching history in the making. The dam should be completed in
early 2013.
The house is fully equipped with everything needed to provide you with a home
away from home, comfortable enough to sleep 4 in the 2 bedrooms and another 2 on
a sleeper couch in the lounge area. There are 2 bathrooms, a spacious open plan
dinning room, kitchen , private scullery and outside verandah.
The house is secured with a fence and has remote control access. The dogs,
Induna and Gracie will welcome any friends but guests who bring their own dogs
are asked to please bring your own dog beds and throws for the furniture.
All linen, towels, electric blankets and firewood are included in your rate.
Cleaning service is available at an extra charge.
