5km from Clarens, you'll find St. Fort, a restored, sandstone homestead, which dates back to 1913. It is set on 2200 acres of farmland in a stunning setting surrounded by mountains.

It has 5 en-suite bedrooms, some with antique pieces. The biggest bedroom has a bath and shower, and can fit 2 extra beds. All the other rooms have showers. There are two single beds in each bedroom, and these can be made double or kept single. For the cold winter months, we provide oil heaters and electric blankets.

Two of these bedrooms form a unit with its own lounge, kitchenette and verandah. The other 3 rooms form the larger unit, also with its own verandah, lounge and spacious kitchen, which has under floor heating. Both the lounges have DSTV and log fires. We have a hospitality fridge stocked with cold drinks and beer. We also offer sherry on the house.

Bookings can be made for the whole house, either one of the units, or for individual rooms.

Ashtrays are provided outside the house, as smoking is prohibited inside.

Things to do at St. Fort include:

• cycling
• bird viewing
• fishing in the nearby Little Caledon River
• enjoying a picnic along the river
• hiking. One of the trails leads up to the Mushroom Rock, a well-known landmark in the area. The cave with rock art is about an hour's walk from the homestead. For the more adventurous, we have sleep-over facilities at the cave.

Clarens has ten restaurants to choose from and many art galleries and gift shops to browse through. White-water rafting and horse riding can also be enjoyed in the area.
