There is an ostrich farm in Africa.
Swellendam on the mountain's side of the N2. A 1200 hectare working farm with free range ostriches, wheat, boerbok, Nguni cows and Dohne Merino sheep. Our natural method of ostrich farming is distinctive... we allow the birds to range free and raise their young themselves, nurturing them under their big wings.
Guests can experience farm life at it's best, tour with Neels, feeding the largest bird in the world or visit the wheat crops, the dairy for fresh warm milk straight from the cow, experience the love and respect between working dog and farmer herding the sheep. Birdwatchers can enjoy the Blue Crane, South Africa's National Bird, Guinea-fowl and Pheasant in winter.

- Ossie the Ostrich Room: Full bathroom, part of main homestead, private entrance, panoramic mountain views, double bed.
- Blue Crane Room: Bathroom with shower, part of main homestead, panoramic mountain views, twin or king bed. The Blue Crane and the Ossie room can be interleding to make a family unit.
- Red Bishop Cottage: Bathroom with a shower, woodburning Dover stove, small kitchenette, panoramic mountain views. Sleeps max 2. Twin or king bed.
- Guinea Fowl Cottage: Bathroom with a shower, woodburning Dover stove, small kitchenette, panoramic mountain views. Sleeps max 2. Double bed.
- Porcupine Studio: Bathroom with a shower, open fireplace, small kitchenette, views over rolling countryside hills. Sleeps max 2. Twin or king bed.
- Nguni Honeymoon Room: Bathroom with a shower, heated spa bath, views over rolling countryside hills and mountains. Sleeps max 2. Twin or king bed.
- Aloe Cottage: Two bedrooms (twin and double), one bathroom with a shower, full kitchen, open plan living area, open fireplace, views over rolling countryside hills. Sleeps max 4 adults and 2 children. Special rates for children sleeping on the sleeper couch.
- Olien Cottage: Two bedrooms (twin and king bed), one bathroom with a shower, full kitchen, open plan living area, open fireplace, views over rolling countryside hills. Sleeps max 4 adults and 2 children. Special rates for children sleeping on the sleeper couch.
Having grown up in the area, Neels offers a lot of information on the vegetation and other interesting points that makes the area so fascinating.
In our traditional Cape Dutch farmhouse, you can experience real South African hospitality with the sounds and glow of a crackling fire.
Dinner is served at the family dining table where local recipes can be sampled with your hosts, Neels and Anne-Lize... all the while experiencing this special part of Africa.
There are four well appointed en-suite rooms, three with fire place, fridge, tea tray, honesty bar and home comforts. Two are Cape Dutch style cottages with sleeping couch for Children. Swimming pool (unfenced). Satour accredited.
The only conclusion... you must experience Skeiding's natural beauty, wildlife, flora and magnificent mountain scenery.
