Shumba Valley Holiday Farm is a family guest farm for those who love the
great outdoors. One can do a multitude of outdoor activities on the farm.Our
fabulous horse trails on horses that love people and are well schooled and
sensible. All tack and equipment is in superb condition to ensure the comfort of
the rider and the horse. The trails range from 1 hour to 6 hrs, or do something
different and have a romantic sundowner ride or champagne breakfast ride. During
full moon we offer our riders a chance to experience a night ride! Shumba Valley
is well known for its variety of beautiful quadding trails. The trails are some
of the most spectacular trails in the country. All these wonderful trails are
delight for Mountain Bikers too. Our Mountain Bike trails into Lesotho are great
technical tests! The 4x4 tracks and trails are found both on the farm and in the
area with great guided trips into Lesotho. Visitors are welcome to bring their
own quad bikes, either two wheels or four; we do however hire out quad bikes for
those that don’t have. Our wonderful airstrip of 600mtrs offers pilots of
small/light aircraft an excellent vantage point from which to have a fly-in
holiday of a life-time. The strip is only 20 metres away from the lodge! Our
marked walking trails are great for those who want to experience farm life at
its best. A great family favourite is to pop down to the river; play in the sand
and splash in the river! Picnics on the riverbanks, or Sundowners "Oppie Koppie"
are all-time favourites.
In our Bed and Breakfast section, homely colonial style comfort can be found in
the rambling farmhouse. One can rough it all day, either on horseback, quad,
two-wheelers, mountain bikes or 4x4's and come home to lovely hot pressurized
showers. Ask for a special herbal bag to soak with you in the bathtub to ease
tired muscles! The bedrooms are fully equipped with coffee/tea making
facilities, heaters, hot water bottles, and towels. In the dining room tea and
coffee with fresh farm milk is available all day. A conversation piece bar with
DSTV is perfect for the sport lovers and social gatherings. A spacious,
uncluttered verandah runs the length of the homestead and is covered with grape
vines and wonderful wisteria creepers. Sit out on the verandah and enjoy the
twitter of a huge variety of bird life in the attractive gardens. A time to
reflect and find your soul!
Two self-catering units are available for those who prefer to do it their way!
The Falcon Cottage sleeps 6 + 2 and the Francolin Cottage sleeps 5 +2 .
Spacious, comfortable up market cottages with everything one needs. The kitchens
are fully equipped. Heaters and a fireplace for the cold winter months! The
spacious covered verandahs, with views of the Rooiberg in the background are
perfect for the hot summer days and long evenings. Each cottage has braai
facilities. Covered carports are right at the back door! Tea and coffee is
provided for you on arrival. The cottages are fully serviced daily. Shumba
Valley has a delightful selection of home grown and homemade produce on sale.
From Jam and preserves, herbal vinegars, homegrown fresh herbs, fresh veg and
fruit.
Our lovely camping sites are perfect for family holidays. The "Top Camp" is the
original, lawned campsite, surrounded by trees and accommodates 26 people with
power points. Loads of hot water in the pressurized showers, clean toilets and
wash up area all flood lit at night if required. The "Bush Camp" is new, with
spectacular views of the valley below and the Maluti Mountains in the
background. This site has its own ablution block and wash up area. A large area
with lovely trees, natural vegetation blending well with the new gardens, one
can really spread out! This site can comfortably accommodate 40 people without
anyone being too close to the other.
Added to all the fun outdoor activities at Shumba Valley, we also offer a truly
unique opportunity for the ladies who do not participate in the outdoor whirl.
Our resident Clinical Nutritionalist is on hand to offer you day classes in the
most exciting forms of healthy cooking, sprouting, chocolate delights that are
healthy, putting together gluten free food that is so yummie even Dad and the
kids will happily convert! She also has all sorts of wonderful CD's on how to do
it, stunning cookery books for sale and offers the ladies some Reiki or Indian
Head massage treatments.
It's all here in the panoramic Brand Water Basin on the border with Lesotho in
the Eastern Free State Highlands. An unspoiled charm and beauty awaits you. This
is a holiday farm where the pressures of city life can be soothed away in one
good deep breathe of exquisite clean air!
Shumba Valley offers a large variety of outdoor packages from 2 –10 day horse
safaris, 3 –6 day Lesotho and local quadding Safari’s, photographic packages, 4
x 4 packages into Lesotho and local. A paradise for artists, bird watchers and
people who just love to walk and chill out!
There are always plenty of other exciting things to do in the area too, so one
can rest assured that a holiday here will be filled with variety. Clarens and
