Situated on the charming
Prince's Grant Golf Estate, 20 minutes north of Ballito, on the KwaZulu-Natal north coast of South Africa, Sea for Africa is the ideal place to stay, whether you are looking for a golfing holiday, spending time with the kids, or just looking to re-charge your batteries. Early mornings can be spent on the upper deck, watching the sun rise over the ocean, where you are bound to see the dolphins at play on their morning frolic up the coast. During the day, if you're not going down to the beach, or trying your luck on the golf course, you could challenge your guests to pool in the downstairs games-room. Late afternoon is an ideal time to get the braai started, and the sliding-door access to the kitchen ensures that whoever is preparing the salads can keep an eye on those braaing the meat. Once the plates have been cleared after dinner, the dining-room table provides the ideal battleground for a "board-game challenge" while those not so inclined can yield to the mesmerizing pull of the ocean's call and retire to the deck.
Accommodation Layout
The upstairs dining-room-lounge-kitchen area with its unlimited viewing access of the ocean gives the house its name: "Sea for Africa". There are 4 en-suite bedrooms, each with a stunning view of the ocean. Two are inside the main house, whilst the third is accessed from outside the front door, and is located in "the tower", above the garage, whilst the fourth is accessed just before entering the upstairs living area. Downstairs, in addition to the pool-table and DStv-enabled entertainment area, are 3 sleeper-couches which could easily accommodate 6 kids.
Facilities
The accommodation is provided on a self-catering basis, and the kitchen, with its stove, oven, micro-wave, dish-washer, fridge and freezer provides the ideal environment for large-scale cooking. Upstairs in the garage, there is a washing machine and tumble dryer should it be needed. However, there is an optional cleaning and cooking service, which will ensure you can relax and make the most of your holiday.
On the estate
You could book a round of golf on the top-20 ranked golf course, relax in the bar overlooking the 1st and 10th tees, or enjoy a meal in the restaurant located within the lodge.
Further afield
If its shops you're after, both Ballito and Umhlanga are within easy access from the N2 highway. If however, its adventure you need, you'll find the game parks of
Hluhluwe & Umfolozi within a morning's drive, although the Sharks Board tour in Umhlanga is well worth a visit. From a historical perspective, a short-trip into Stanger will provide you with the burial-site of Shaka, the great Zulu warrior - a bit further will take you to the battle sites of the British - and for an up to date perspective, a trip into Groutville will show the burial place of South Africa's first Nobel peace prize winner, Chief Albert Luthuli.
