Don't drive past the old red bicycle that indicates the turn-off to Rooikloof
Guest Farm situated 2.8km from the picturesque village of Sutherland famous for
its dark skies and bright stars.
Accommodation, ideal for families and groups, consists of four well restored and
luxuriously furnished self catering (fully equipped) farm houses - Huis Harpuis
(sleeps 10 people = 3x double- and 2x 2 single bed) and Renosterbos Cottage
(sleeps 6 people = 2x double- and 1x 2 single bed). Completely renovated
Koesnaatjie 1 & 2 (both have gas fridges, -heating and -stoves) provide 1X
double bed plus leather sleeper sofa for kids. ( see October 2010 Weg Magazine
pg 20.) All cottages have their own braai facilities with all the necessary
equipment as well as the necessary fire places to keep the worst cold at bay.
On the farm there are several trails, for walking and mountain-biking, through
typical Karoo vegetation. If you do not want to leave the farm there are various
games for your entertainment. These include table tennis, darts, boules and
various board games. Alternatively why not consider a night time guided tour of
S.A.L.T. (advance booking required).
The farm is also home to smaller wild animals like rock rabbit (dassies),
mongoose, hares, baboons, springbok and grey rhebuck. Bird and butterfly
watchers certainly wont leave disappointed.
In the cold winter months Rooikloof has been known to have heavy snowfalls and
sub-zero temperatures. All houses have fireplaces and we sell local wood on the
farm. Huis Harpuis and Renosterbos Cottage have heaters, electric blankets and
warm bedding in each room. Both the Koesnaatjie Cottages have 11 tog feather
duvets, warm water bags and gas heaters in the bedrooms to take the bite of the
winter nights ... very romantic !
After a good winter-raining season the wild flowers in the area (August to
October) are spectacular. A wide variety of annual and bulbous wild flowers grow
on the farm - and nothing beats the scent of evening flowers at dusk.
If you are tired of the rat race and are looking for somewhere to escape city
stress, this is the ideal place to find peace and quiet - you can almost hear
the silence, interrupted only by the odd farm sound of a windmill or a cock
crowing to announce daybreak.
