Rhino Post Safari Lodge is situated on over 12,000 hectares of pristine bushveld in the only wilderness concession in the Kruger National Park. The concession shares a 15km unfenced boundary with the famous Mala Mala and Sabi Sands reserve, with an abundance of wildlife moving freely between the two reserves.

It has exclusive use of some of the Kruger National Park's public roads for evening game drives, well after gate closing times (sunset), ensuring guests an unforgettable experience. Highly qualified guides share their wealth of bush knowledge with you in an environmentally sensitive area that offers the Big Five as well as a diversity of fauna and flora.

Rhino Post Safari Lodge
Rhino Post Safari Lodge is a 16-bed lodge, set on the banks of the Mutlumuvi Riverbed in the Kruger National Park.

The nature of a wilderness area is that there are no permanent structures, so Rhino Post Safari Lodge was built using natural materials of stone, wood, thatch and canvas to create an authentic bush ambience.
Stilts raise the 8 spaciously appointed suites from the riverbank allowing guests to view the Mutlumuvi riverbed with ease from the bedroom, bathroom and private wooden deck. The suites are set out in an open plan style with wooden floors, thatched roofs, canvas walls and an overhead fan. Each ensuite bathroom includes a deep, freestanding bath, 'his and hers' basins, a separate toilet and an outdoor shower protected by thick reed poles. The bathroom floor is attractively decorated with delicate mosaic designs complimenting the contemporary floor. All the suites have mini-bars and telephones linked to all areas.

Following a game drive, guests can relax in the revitalizing swimming pool, take in the views from the shaded patio and watch the abundant wildlife amble down to the waterhole. Sumptuous meals are served in the camp's dining area, which is set under magnificent Tamboti trees. The lounge, with its extensive wine cellar, cosy fireplace and bar, is the perfect spot for a sundowner.

In the spirit of wilderness areas worldwide, Rhino Post Safari Lodge has been specially designed and built to have minimal impact on the environment. Low energy lighting, natural materials, raised walkways and bedrooms are but some of the low impact measures we have taken.

How to get there by road

Recommended route from Johannesburg / Pretoria:

Take the N12 / N4 highway to Nelspruit. From Nelspruit, take the R40 through White River and onto Hazyview. At Hazyview turn right onto the R536 towards Paul Kruger Gate, Kruger National Park. Once through the gate, drive straight (on the H11) for approximately 12km. You will reach a four-way crossing (where turning left will take you to Skukuza - do not take). Proceed straight across for another 2km until you reach a T-junction. Turn left at this junction and continue for approximately 1km until you reach another four-way crossing, turn right (onto the H1-2). You will cross a low water bridge (over Sabi River), approximately 4km later you will cross the Sand River. Keep heading straight, past the dirt road on the left signposted Maroela Loop, 6km further, you will pass another dirt road, also signposted Maroela Loop. Approximately 1km after the second dirt road you will see a dirt road on the left signposted Rhino Walking Safaris. Take this turning and proceed for 2.5km, the road will then turn sharply left, after which you will travel another 2.7km, leading you directly to Rhino Post.

    Late Arrivals

After Gate Closing (Self Drive Only): The Kruger National Park has several entrance gates, although Rhino Walking Safari guests are advised to enter through Paul Kruger Gate, as it is the closest to the lodge. Guests must enter the Kruger Gate 45 minutes before closing time to allow sufficient time to drive to Rhino Post. Guests who know in advance that they will be unable to make the gate 45-minutes before closing time can arrive as late as 7pm. There will however, be a surcharge per vehicle (refer to rates) for an escort to accompany guests to the lodge. Prior arrangements are necessary to ensure this is available.

Plains Camp: Guests arriving after 14h00 will be obliged to spend their first night at Rhino Post Safari Lodge or if the lodge is full, wait at Rhino Post until 19h30/20h00 for a late transfer over to Plains Camp.

Agents please note: Rhino Walking Safaris will not hold the responsibility of informing your clients of the importance of arriving before transfer and gate closing times.
