Just to the West of Johannesburg lies the Lanseria International Airport, a general Aviation airfield that first started to take shape in 1972, when two Pretoria pilots forsaw the need for a general aviation airport to the West of Johannesburg. Despite bad weather conditions during the construction, and a shortage of steel for the hangers, the international airport was completed on schedule, and was officially opened to air traffic on 16 August 1974. - Read more
