REQUEST GUEST FARM
Guest Farm Accommodation
in Bedford, Western Region,
Eastern Cape, South Africa
Nestled in the heart of a historic family farm close to the quaint village of
Bedford, Request guest house offers an idyllic secluded and tranquil experience.
Built in 1896, it has been restored to its original Cape Dutch splendour with
gables, louvers and whitewashed walls. No expense was spared in the interior.
With a contemporary twist, it recalls the days of prosperous farm living in
luxurious and plush surroundings.
The guest house provides you with comfortable and quality self-catering
accommodation or a Bed & Breakfast option.
From a wraparound veranda (stoep) with expansive windows, the house offers
spectacular views to Kaga Mountain looming blue over the grass savannah veld.
From here one can spot the famous fallow deer which inhabit the area. Kudu,
impala, mountain reedbuck, springbuck, small game and warthog also thrive on the
grassy veld as well as a wide variety of bird life.
In addition to its farming roots, Request Guest House used to be the main hub of
surrounding farms. In the early 1900's, the farm served as a railway siding for
the neighbouring farmers who came to load their wool and stock. Furthermore, one
of the historical directional stones placed and carved by the old sled and ox
wagon pioneers is located in walking distance of the guest house.
Accommodation
There are four bedrooms available: one King room (with access to the
verandah) and three twin rooms.
Each of Request's spacious bedrooms has been restored to old farmhouse opulence
complete with luxurious linen. Furthermore, each room is fitted with a modern
en-suite bathroom with comforts such as heated towel rails and spacious showers.
The guest house boasts a large farm kitchen which is fully equipped. The kitchen
opens up onto the swimming pool through a large pantry, offering easy access to
the exterior braai (BBQ) and lapa area.
A centrally located lounge and entertainment area provides TV/ DSTV and DVD
facilities (selection of DVD'S available) and opens up onto the verandah and
swimming pool. Enveloped in Cape Dutch wall paneling, the original fireplace is
still in use for warm, cosy winter nights.
Connected to the lounge and foyer, one enters a beautiful dining room adorned
with an elegant chandelier and solid wooden furniture. Large doors provide
access to the verandah and enhance dinners with spectacular views over the
garden and cooling breezes.
The exterior braai is a traditional lapa area, with tree stumps employed as
seats and a central fireplace - perfect for eating under the stars and enjoying
the quiet of the night.
Plenty of tree shaded parking space is located at the back of the guest house.
