Self Catering Cottage Accommodation
in Haenertsburg, Capricorn,
Limpopo, South Africa

Relive the mining era of historical Haenertsburg.

The Pennefather Gold Mining Company Limited consists of two trading posts and six B&B /self-catering cottages.

We are situated in Rissik Street in this picturesque village in the MagoebasPolokwane (Pietersburg) and Tzaneen on the R71 - 340 km from Pretoria - enroute to the Kruger National Park.

'The Pennefather' takes you back to the period of rough miners and stage coach robbers more than a hundred years ago when Haenertsburg was founded because of the gold that was discovered here.

The complex is called The Pennefather Gold Mining Company Ltd. and the two Trading Posts, Never Despair and New Found Out. All three are named after mining companies that mined gold here when Haenertsburg was founded in 1887.

Cottages: 4 Twin & 2 Double

The Cottages Are Named: Karl Mauch, Ferdinand Haenert, Doel Zeederberg, Rider Haggard, Long Tom and Prester John. Each name is applicable to the history of Haenertsburg.
  • Cozy, open plan old miner style cottages.
  • Each with a fireplace for those cold evenings.
  • Fully equipped for self-catering, bathroom with shower.
  • Undercover parking attached to each cottage.
  • DStv (selected channels).
  • Linen, bath towels and toiletries.
  • Walking distance to all shops and restaurants (+-150m).
  • Weber Braai available.
Beautiful Polokwane (Pietersburg) Plateau that you've passed through on your way here and the dry hot lowveld after the (R71) has dropped down the escarpment through the picturesque Magoebaskloof  to Tzaneen - to quote from the Scottish author John Buchan when he visited the area more than a hundred years ago.

Here is a true lodge in the wilderness, with on the one side the stony Pietersburg uplands, and on the other the malarial bushveld. The contrast makes a profound impression, since the Woodbush itself is the extreme of richness and beauty.
