Elton is a working dairy farm situated in the Bushmansnek Valley outside
Sani Pass!
At the foot of Mt
Sutherland we offer the warmth of our quaint Pear Tree Cottage. This is the pre-1900 original Elton farm-house constructed of wattle and daub. It is thatched, has 1 double room and 1 twin room all sharing one bathroom. It has a perfectly simple "old world" charm about it, and is simply perfect for that much needed escape from busy and sophisticated city life. It is also an excellent base from which to explore our scenic
Southern Drakensberg countryside and newly proclaimed World Heritage Site.
Self catering and serviced. Fully equipped but not fancy ie. no TVs!!! But a healthy hearth! Provided with linen and electric blankets, but please bring your own towels. The kitchen has fridge / freezer, stove,
microwave, kettle, toaster and all the necessary cutlery and crockery. It has garden furniture and portable braai facilities (Weber, supply your own
brickettes). Wood for the fireplaces and fresh farm milk can be purchased on the farm.
Activities on the farm include:
For fishermen - the ever superior challenge of catching the wild rainbow trout in some of the most pristine river waters or from the stocked alpine Mount Sutherland Dam.
For outdoor enthusiasts, hikers, mountain-bikers - there are 1440Ha to explore
including river frontage and the mighty Mount Sutherland (2268m) to conquer.
For nature lovers - a quiet stroll with a keen appreciation for the abundant birdlife and indigenous flora will be most rewarding. Sightings of dassie, baboon, Vaal-rhebuck, reedbuck, Eland, Oribi and the wild otter are not rare either. So don't forget your binoculars.
Children can enjoy a farm experience and under supervision a peek at the cows being milked.

- The Bushmansnek Parks Board from which to enjoy daily hikes.
- The Bushmansnek Hotel where one an wine and dine, or catch the rugby.
- The Gliding Club offers a memorable experience.
- Horse riding by arrangement.
- Teas and light lunches at the Farmhouse Coffee Shop.
And in the area, a trip up Sani Pass is most highly recommended. So don't forget your passport!
