Ochre House is located in Bergview, an access-controlled secure estate in
Central Drakensberg, a World Heritage site.
The generously proportioned house has 3 bedrooms, comfortably sleeping 6. The
upstairs master bedroom with antique furniture has a double bed with a bathroom
en-suite. The bedroom opens out to a lovely patio. One of two downstairs
bedrooms has two single beds while the other has a double bed. They are serviced
by a second bathroom. All bedrooms have underfloor heating.
The fully-equipped kitchen looks out over an open-plan lounge and dining room,
and aJetmaster fireplace in the lounge makes for cosy evenings in front of the
cottage's television, with DSTV decoder. Built-in braai facilities are in the
patio which has spectacular views of the Champagne Valley.
The peace and tranquility of the mountains are not the only reasons to visit the
Drakensberg. From the cottage, there is easy access to numerous walks and hikes,
both up into the mountains, or down into the valleys with their impressive
indigenous forests, and bountiful birdlife. Bergview Estate boasts a recently
established vulture-feeding station, which attracts a number of different
raptors.
Within a kilometer of the cottage, is the Drakensberg Sun Hotel, which has
swimming pools, tennis and squash courts, boating and trout fishing in the lake.
Ochre House guests may utilize all of these facilities at the discretion of the
hotel's management.
The Valley offers many other forms of entertainment, including horse-riding,
quad-biking, white-water rafting, mountain boarding, and world-class mountain
bike trails for the more adventurous. A major new attraction is the Canopy Tour
of the Grotto indigenous forest. Local craft such as carpet-weaving and grass
basketry can be appreciated and purchased at source in the Valley.
The Drakensberg Boys' Choir performs every Wednesday afternoon at the school.
Nearby attractions include golfat the highly rated Champagne Sports Resort golf
course.
