in Strydenburg, Hantam Karoo & Upper Karoo,
Northern Cape, South Africa

Beautifully renovated, very spacious Karoo house, exactly half-way between Cape Town and Johannesburg on the N12, in Strydenburg. Ideal as overnight stop-over for family or group of friends (sleeps up to six). Great value Karoo breakaway for real relaxation away from the stress of city life. Stunning night skies for stargazing. Guests will have complete privacy, the house is for one family or one group only and the whole house will be at your disposal. Huge garden with lots of extra parking and lock-up garage.

The house is over 100 years old and full of character, tastefully renovated. Modern wooden floors, high ceilings and very comfortable furniture. Two bedrooms, a sunroom with single bed, huge kitchen, separate dining room, lounge and bathroom with separate toilet. Lovely braai area with garden furniture. There is no television but that makes the breakaway even more complete, rediscover the joys of conversation and peace and quiet. Comprehensive library with many books that guests are welcome to use while staying over. You will not easily find better value for a relaxing stay or break in the long Cape Town-Johannesburg drive anywhere in the Karoo. Strydenburg is a typical Karoo town with gravel roads and loads of character. Enjoy amazing sunsets, go for peaceful walks, have a braai and enjoy the bright night skies.

There are interesting sights in the area, with Boer War battlefields just 50km away, the Orange River is also 50km away where there is river rafting and canoeing. Or just go for a drive in the surrounding countryside on lesser-known country roads. Strydenburg has a large pan that in the wet season attracts a variety of birdlife. Many historical buildings in the town itself, such as the 100-year old Hervormde Church. There are ample opportunities for leisurely walks in town itself and in the surrounding countryside, and mountain bikers will find many unexplored country trails. Horse-riding available in town. Note to 2010 visitors: Strydenburg is exactly halfway on one of the two main highways between Cape Town and Johannesburg, an ideal stopover between the two cities.
