About Gansbaai:
Gansbaai (baai = bay) is world renowned for the Great White Sharks and Southern
Right Whales in Walker bay, a marine reserve. The best land based Whale watching
in the world is a not-so-well-kept secret of De Kelders, a suburb of Gansbaai.
Organized boat trips are undertaken from the Kleinbaai harbour. Observing the
Great White Shark from within a metal cage is an adrenalin must! Boat based
Whale watching gives you a very up-close view of these giants of the ocean.
Other activities in the area include coastal or mountain hikes in the Fynbos
(the largest flora kingdom in the world) or do it with tractor drives. 4x4
eco-drives and mountain bike rides gets you in touch with nature. You can visit
wine estates, a micro beer-brewery and cheese factory and touch farm. Fishing
from the rocks or off a boat. Art and artists abound in this unspoiled country
break-away with a local art route in nearby Baardskeerdersbos (Beard shavers
bush). Owner-artist Rouvé de Flamingh's work can be viewed on DVD in the comfort
of No 4 Klein Street. If you just want to rest you can relax and bask in the
sun.
Hermanus, the Riviera of the South, is only a 40km scenic drive away, offering
even more art, restaurants, wine estates and many more.
