Tucked away on the lower slopes of a tree-covered hillside in the Eastern
district of Zimbabwe lies a delightful little leisure resort known by the name
of MUSANGANO - 'the place where people meet.'
Whether you are looking for a weekend retreat to relax with family and friends
or want to have a conference in quiet surroundings, Musangano Lodge offers a
comprehensive range of facilities that will suit your requirements. Visitors
soon fall under its spell and realize that it is not just a meeting place
because its peaceful and relaxing atmosphere, comfortable accommodation,
excellent cuisine and splendid views invite to linger and unwind.
Our cosy dining room and the spacious garden restaurant have acquired a
reputation for serving delicious food, be it a full breakfast, a light lunch or
a table d'hote three- or four-course dinner.
Musangano Lodge is situated two and a half hours by car from the capital city of
Harare and a twenty minutes' drive from the border town of Mutare. It is ideally
located for exploring the attractions of the Eastern Highlands. We offer airport
transfers on request.
Accommodation
Spaced well apart for privacy, our splendid accommodation blends well into the
Miombo mountain woodland and creates a warm ethnic ambience. Guests may choose
between self catering lodges for families and groups or smaller chalets for two.
Musangano Lodge offers spacious accommodation under thatch for up to 32 guests
in well equipped lodges and chalets. All units are tastefully furnished, of a
high finish and decorated in ethnic style to create a homely and cosy
atmosphere. They are well-spaced for privacy and yet only a few minutes away
from the restaurant and reception area. From the covered porches visitors will
appreciate the spectacular distant views across the broad Odzi River Valley
towards the dramatic granite ramparts of the Eastern Highlands.
The self catering lodges are ideal for families and fully equipped with fridge,
4 plate gas stove with oven, crockery, cutlery, cooking utensils, kitchen towels
and an outside private braai stand. Three lodges accommodate four guests in two
bedrooms, and one sleeps six in three bedrooms. An additional sleeping place is
available if required in the spacious living area measuring about 100 square
metres.
The five one-roomed 30 square metre chalets sleep two and are provided with a
tea-kitchenette (fridge, electric kettle, crockery, basic cutlery, kitchen
towel).
All units have DStv. Furthermore bed linen, mosquito nets, towels as well
deck-chairs for the porch are provided. During the winter months, between May
and August, the fireplace will be much appreciated. Lodges and chalets have
parking areas for one or two cars, and are accessible with wheelchairs. The
units are serviced daily, laundry and car was services on request.
Nearby attractions and activities
Musangano Lodge offers its guests a fine range of exciting outdoor activities,
from swimming and games to nature walks on the property (maps supplied) and
birdwatching and biking in the vicinity (suggested routes with maps supplied).
There is an exciting Robinson adventure playground on the premises and the wide
expanses of lawn invite to romp around or play games such as badminton, table
tennis or volley-ball.
Furthermore the Lodge is well placed for day visits to a number of interesting
Eastern Highlands spots, such as rock art sites, the nearby Osborne Dam, the
little town of Mutare, the Bvumba area with its montane forests, and others.
Further afield, visitors can explore the Nyanga downs and mountains with its
many prehistoric dry-stone structures.
