Mulberry Cottage
Mulberry Cottage is north-facing, nestled beside the Buffels River and
completely private. There is a large 'stoep' area, and on the far end of it, a
braai area, as well as a fireplace in an old soap pot, which we partially sunk
into the 'stoep'. Wood is supplied. Karoo lamb and braai packs are available by
prior arrangement. It is a fully furnished, self-contained cottage, but should
you require meals, we can do so, as long as we know in advance.
Extending off the 'stoep' is a wooden deck. The views are spectacular! Bird life
is plentiful. At night the skies are 'lit up' with all the stars you can see!
The cottage has been furnished with some antiques, as we liked the idea of
mixing the old with the new, we feel it creates a great atmosphere. There two
bedrooms. The one has two single beds, cupboard and dressing table. The other
has two single beds, a double bunk, cupboard and a loose standing mirror.
The bathroom has a shower, bath, basin and toilet. A gas geyser supplies hot
water. Included are bath towels and bedding. Guests are to bring their own
swimming towels.
In the kitchen there is a gas stove, microwave, fridge, kettle and toaster. We
have kept the paraffin lamps for those who enjoy the ambience of low light.
The lounge has a fireplace and there's nothing to beat a log fire in the winter!
There is no TV. Cellphone reception is staggered on the farm.
The pool is at the main homestead and guests are welcome to use it as they would
like. Some even swim in the river! A beautiful waterfall is just upstream from
the guest cottage. Guests can go for walks, cycle (their own bikes) and feel
free to explore the farm.
We are privileged and enjoy being able to share the beauty and tranquillity of
what is for us part of our everyday lives.
Charlton House
Charlton House is situated next to the main homestead, but it has its own
entrance and outside entertainment/braai area. The house is fully furnished and
fully equipped. Linen and bath towels are included. Guests are requested to
bring their own swimming towels.
The house consists of an open kitchen/ dining/ bar area with a fireplace.The
lounge has a TV and DSTV is available. There is also under floor heating in the
lounge. There are three bedrooms. The main bedroom has a double bed, small TV,
walk in cupboard as well as a free standing one and an ensuite
bathroom, consisting of a shower, basin and toilet. The other two bedrooms have
an inter-leading bathroom. This bathroom has a shower, bath, basin and toilet.
The one bedroom has two single beds with built in cupboards. The other bedroom
has a double bed with built in cupboards and a door leading to the stoep area.
The undercover stoep is north facing and has a braai area on the one end.Wood is
supplied. For the warmer summer months, the one end of the stoep has fine misty
sprayers, which cools down the air.
At the end of the bar area, there is a door, and the pool is just outside of
that.
The view from the house is spectacular - and old stone wall, trees and in the
distance, mountains!
THINGS TO DO:
Graaff-Reinet is 64kms from us on the R63 and there are many museums/
restaurants/ Valley of Desolation and other places of interest to
visit.
Nieu-Bethesda is also close by and a must is a visit to the well-known Owl
House.
Murraysburg has its first new restaurant and is only 28kms from us.
On the farm - you can go for walks/runs/cycle (bring own bikes). We have a
summer/winter solstice spot to visit/4X4 route/bushman painting - all can be
done in your own time and leisure.
It gives us such great pleasure to be able to share our little place of heaven
on earth!
On offer - dinner and breakfasts/braai packs/Karoo lamb can all be arranged when
booking, as long as we have sufficient warning.
