The Mount Everest game farm covers approximately 1000 hectares and consists
of mountains, kloofs and rolling grassland, a perfect setting for the 22+
species of game established on the farm. It is also a working sheepfarm and home
to a lively family of six. Among the species on the farm are blesbuck,
springbuck, the rare lechwe, mountain deer, ribbok, waterbuck, blue wildebeest,
black wildebeest, zebra, ostrich, steenbok, duiker, rietbuck, rooikat ( caracle),
meerkat and also a "dassie" colony. The very rare reptile called ouvolk" also
thrives on part of the farm. There is also a wide variety of birds.
The game can be viewed from the comfort of your chalet, from the game drive
vehicle, quad bike, hiking or cycling.
The farm, formerly known as Eagle Mountain, is located 20 kilometres from
Harrismith and 17 kilometres off the N3 highway between Johannesburg and Durban,
which makes it the perfect stopover to start your holiday.
Harrismith accommodation at Mount Everest is available in our swiss style
chalets, rondawels or camping in the caravan park.
We also provide beautiful venues for weddings, conferences, team building
activities "high ropes" or any other functions.
Set in the very scenic Eastern Free State, it is close to the Golden Gate
National Park, Clarens, the Drakensberg, the Midlands Meander and the
Sterkfontein Dam.
The closeby town of Harrismith annually hosts events like the Dirty Harry
Mountain Bike race, the Berg, the Sterkfontein Dam swim etc.

You can also enjoy our pool area (although the pool is not operable at this
stage) and swemgat -or swimming hole - a dam with a fufi slide. There are picnic
spots at the pool area, braai facilities and swings and jungle gym for the
children. Day visitors are welcome to the swimming hole and picnic area or
forrock climbing, cycling or hiking.
At the Ouhout leisure lounge you can play a variety of board games, table
tennis, watch DSTV or work out in the mini gym with exercise bike, treadmill and
strength trainer.
Accommodation:
There are various options for accommodation. From Swiss style chalet, rondawels,
camping and caravaning, as well as wooden cabins for church camps, school camps
or bigger groups.
All chalets are set far apart to provide privacy and peacefulness. Linen, towels
and toiletries are provided in chalets.
Chalets
Arendskop:
Situated on the slopes of Eagle Mountain, right underneath the beak of the
eagle, this chalets offers spectacular views and warm comfort. Nine people can
sleep here in three rooms and one loft. There are three bathrooms. Balconies in
the front of the chalet provide views to the rolling landscape in the front and
the views of the cliffs can be enjoyed from the rear rooms. Braai facilities and
garage for one vehicle is available.
Renoster and Waterbok:
These two identical chalets provide spacious, bushveld atmosphere for up to 10
people in 5 rooms – one room is an open loft. There are three bathrooms with
shower and/or bath. Braai facilities available, carport at Renoster.
Zebra
Four people can sleep in this 2 bedroom one loft chalet with thatch roof. 1
Bathroom, braai facility, close to central part of the farm, not situated in the
hills, thus more easily accessible.
Mount Everest:
This chalet is by the popular Ostrich egg boulder and five people can sleep
here. Also braai facilities and stunning views.
Kransduif:
You have to be in shape for this one! Set right against the mountain slope,
Kransduif provides accommodation for four fit ones. A quick walk of 90 steps or
so takes you up this chalet and the view will reward you for every step!
Gasstove, lights and refrigerator provides energy and braai can held at the
campsite just arount the mountain. For the more adventurous! Seclusion provides
for the perfect honeymoon romance.
Tarebtaal and Witkruisarend:
These two are about 100 metres from each other - close but not too close and
also within walking distance of the pool area. Four people can sleep in each of
these chalets.
Mooihoek chalet:
Four people can sleep here and energy is also provided by gas stove and
refrigerator. For people serious about getting away from it all.
Mooihoek Caravan Park and Campground:
The caravan park and camping ground has a beautiful view of Platberg Mountain
and surrounding countryside. The 15 campsites has electricity, braai facilities
and a very cozy log cabin style ablution block and dishwashing area. Enjoy true
peace and quiet. There are about two or three sites for larger caravans, but the
rest of the sites are more suitable for smaller caravans or tents. The road may
pose a problem to some, because the site is set high against the foothills of
Mooihoek mountain.
Ouhout Guest Rooms:
4 Rooms where 6 people can sleep in each. Each room has an en-suite bathroom
with bath and shower. Thatched roof provides a rustic atmosphere. Continental
breakfast is provided ifor these rooms, since they do not have kitchen
facilities. Coffee and tea facilities are provided in the rooms. Meals are
catered in the Ouhout restaurant nearby. The conference room is also in this
complex.
Log Cabins:
The cabins are for group camps like churches or schools. Up to 8 people can
sleep in a cabin on bunkbeds provided. There are 12 cabins. Each cabin has a
separate basin, toilet and shower.
Venue for functions:
Several different types of functions can be held at Mount Everest.
Conferences, weddings, year end functions, birthday parties, school camps and
church camps are among the functions that can be held at the farm.
The "high ropes" is for team building and personal development training.
