Midlands Forest Lodge has beautiful log cabins that overlook the magnificent
Balgowan Valley in the heart of the Midlands Meander. Walks through this forest
allow one to experience a peace and tranquility which restores one's soul. Sit
in your room and watch the mist surround you with a beauty that is surreal.
This tranquil and secluded hillside retreat lives up to its name by bordering on
pristine indigenous forest where fauna and flora abound and a natural sanctuary
to numerous species of birds exists.
At an altitude of 1340m, one can survey the unspoilt beauty of the Midlands
valley from one of 12 well appointed suites. Utmost care has been taken in
making the cosy log cabins blend harmoniously with nature.
Enjoy a leisurely walk on the escarpment or, for the more adventurous, explore
the forest with its towering giant yellowwood trees.
Accommodation
Midlands Forest Lodge offers ten twin roomed chalets (i.e. two rooms to one
chalet, each room sleeping two guests) on a bed and breakfast option. Each room
has an ensuite shower and toilet, a small verandah, and facilities to make
tea/coffee.
There are also two self-catering chalets, which each sleep four guests in two
bedrooms per chalet. These units have ensuite showers and toilets, a compact
kitchen area and barbeque facilities.
Because Midlands Forest Lodge focuses on the tranquility of the area, there are
no TVs in the chalets. However, the communal lounge next to the reception
features the DStv B & B bouquet on a large flat screen, a small library, a
fireplace for cold weather fires and an honesty bar. Leading off the communal
lounge is the breakfast room, with outdoor deck, where cold continental
breakfasts including a selection of cereals, yogurts, fruit, cold meat, muffins,
baguettes, cheeses, jams and preserves, are served each morning.
Functions
At Midlands Forest Lodge, a large, well-positioned function room with its own
kitchen, can be hired out for corporate imbizos/getaways, conferences, weddings,
or any other type of function, on a "Dry Hire" basis.
This enables the organizers of functions to hire according to their needs and
budgets, and control individual aspects of the hire process. Lists of local
suppliers of services, equipment and catering are available. Access to the
function room is via an attractive railway sleeper-paved walkway, and a covered
portico marks the entrance. The room, which can accommodate up to 100 delegates
or guests, has large west-facing windows that can be darkened if required. Close
to the function room is the games room, enabling children of guests to be
entertained easily while the function is in progress.
