In the heart of the Great Karoo, 630km from Cape Town and 800km from Johannesburg lies this green oasis. Melton Wold is a working sheep and game farm and offers a complete holiday venue, away from the rush of big city life. We are on the route to Namakwaland flowers.
Photographers and nature lovers can never exhaust the resources of the veld, with 210 different bird species to see. You can also see a diamond mine and remains of a fossil.
For the more actively inclined, there are walks and mountain bikes for hire. Other attractions are a bowling green, swimming pool, tennis court, game viewing and hunting. Children are most welcome and can watch the cows being milked and the tamned animals being fed. They can enjoy the trampoline in the garden aswell as a play ground. Nannies can be organised to look after the children.
Accommodation consists of single, double and family rooms and is provided in an enlarged farm house, the main part which dates back to 1889. Eighteen of the twenty-three rooms are en suite and with fireplaces. The farms own produce, especially Karoo lamb and venison, is the foundation of renowned excellent cuisine.
Our caravan park is covered with kikuyu grass and has its own ablution facilities and 220 volt electricity supply.
There is a comfortable lounge and a attractive ladies bar, 'The Deer and Pheasant'.
Melton Wold is 40km outside Victoria West on the Loxton road (R63) and is easy accessible by car, air or train. An airstrip is available if you wish to fly in, or arrrangements can be made to meet you at Hutchinson station (54km from the farm) if you make the journey by train.
