Read about the Outeniqua Country Hop Route:
Why the name "Country Hop"! Well we are working hard to create a tourism route that starts from Herold's Bay and works its way through over the Outeniqua Mountain, to either the little town of Herold or the little green gem of a place called Waboomskraal. Along this picturesque route you will find yourself spoilt for choice with accommodation, either the small B & B type to a farm style country haven or to top class 4 star service and excellence. For the golfers it is a mecca as we have some first class courses for you to choose from, Outbaai near Herolds Bay, to Fancourt with its 4 incredible 18 hole golf courses; Montagu; Outeniqua; The Links & Bramble Hill. In George itself we have the George Golf Course and for those of you who feel less inclined to walk so far we have The Three Chameleons which offer a Short Course and Pitch and Putt, that is awesome with the top 10 attractions in South Africa to aim through! You have to try it.

For those of you less inclined to play golf you can spend the day at Herolds Bay beach and lap up the sun, sea and sand, and find yourself a cozy sea front accommodation or wine and dine at the local restaurant and take in a bit of whale watching or walk along the beach and fynbos trails. Of course we offer so much more on this route you can book a tour at Valcor and experience true South African Farm Hospitality. This tour allows you to see 900 cows being milked in a Carousel Dairy, you have to see it to believe it. Children can touch and see the calves, and appreciate where milk really does come from. Silverlilly Cheese Farm offers you the opportunity to pop in and taste there wide variety of delicious Dutch cheeses hand made on the farm, picnics on the dam and tours are available on request. Visit an animal Touch Farm and tea garden at Lumier open to the public 11:00 to 16:00 on Wednesdays only. Otherwise book you children's theme parties or Crafty Kids Art lessons at Lumier.

Another great place for the whole family to visit is the Redberry Farm, this is a Strawberry growing farm where you can go and pick your own strawberries, and pick to your hearts content or enjoy delicious scones and tea or other delicious delights from the light tea-garden menu and sit outside on the vast expanse of lawn while children enjoy the swings and run free. There is a Farm Shop where you will find a wide selection of deli foods, cheeses, gifts, fresh vegetables, biscuits, jams and fresh strawberries which have already been picked for you if you do not have the time to pick your own. Close by we have a Horse Riding Centre, "Cruisa" here you can learn to ride, enjoy lessons or even enjoy summer camps with lots of fun activities and out rides. Many of these horses are well schooled in jumping and are sold to able bodied riders who want to go far in the riding world! Well worth a visit.

If you enjoy beautiful art and exquisite gifts call in at Twenty One on Montagu and see for yourself what magnificent Art is on display, we keep Red Moon Chinese furniture and artifacts and are also stockists of Persian carpets from Gonsenhausers.

Our gallery stocks art, ceramics and sculptures by some of the finest painters in the Cape. Then we have Leila's Arms which is a Permaculture Project, with an Earthen Building School and A Farm Eatery serving delicious home cooked lunches, including Sunday Lunch. Take time out for a leisurely trip over the old Montagu Pass and enjoy the Flora and Fauna on route to the little town of Herold. Once up there you will find the Herold Wine Farm. Here you can have a guided tour of the farm and see the grape vines growing when in season and taste there specialty wines. They are not big wine producers but what they produce is certainly worth having a bottle or two of.

A great place to overnight is Over the Mountain Guest Farm in Herold where you can sleep in "The House of Sin" or old police station. Carry on from Herold so that you can drive through the Waboonskraal Valley, here you will find quite a variety of farms from: fruit farms to grape growing farms to Hop Farms. The Hops are picked and sent through to Rob Roy Farm which is next door to Fancourt. Here the Hops are processed and the final product is sent through to various breweries. Tours can be organized but only during season time which is very short between March to May. Do not miss the opportunity to stop in at the RoadSide Deli while passing through Waboonskraal and try there pizza's or home baked pasta's they are very delicious. Next door you will find a small Farm Stall that sells lots of home made jams, pickles and dried fruit.

At the Railway Museum you will find the Power Van, bookings are essential though, but the trip is magnificent. This little van takes you for a scenic trip up the mountain, where it stops and you can enjoy the view of George and surrounds, examine the fauna and flora and enjoy a picnic lunch that you have packed. The round trip is about 4 hours and the carriages must be full before it will leave. We also have a donkey sanctuary where once abused and ill-treated donkeys are cared for, at the Sanctuary you will find an A La Carte Restaurant and Coffee shop and the proceeds they make from this go to caring for these special creatures.
