On the banks of the Komati River, at the base of a miniature Grand Canyon,
this small village of thatched dwellings provides affordable luxury in a most
dramatic setting. The pristine beauty and peaceful environment offers the
visitor a relaxed holiday guaranteed to rejuvenate even the most stressed-out
individual.
Awarded four star grading by the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa and a
Superior Accommodation rating with the Automobile Association, this untouched
expanse of 1200ha with its thorn bushveld and highveld grassland offers an
unparalleled experience to nature lovers. The biodiversity creates a perfect
environment for the prolific birdlife and a wide range of indigenous trees,
shrubs and wild flowers.
The Lodge offers luxury accommodation throughout, with 4 double suites boasting
impressive views of the Komati River and gorge, three self-catering cottages and
6 romantic self catering units for 2, four of which have spa baths.
Most rooms have an open fireplace, a hammock and satellite TV (DStv). All
self-catering units have their own braai (barbeque) facilities and private
varandah.
The cosy pub and restaurant offers a good selection of South Africa's favourite
foods and wines. Also in the main complex are a quiet lounge for relaxing with a
selection of books and magazines, and a swimming pool with sun loungers. The
lodge also has conference facilities for up to 30 people.
Activities include, fly fishing for Yellowfish in 10 km of unpolluted Komati
River and 3 stunning trout dams, canoeing on the river, guided quad bike tours
of the reserve, hiking, walking, bird watching and exploring ancient ruins. Game
viewing and horse riding are also close by and easily arranged.
Komati Gorge Lodge benefits from being within striking distance of both
Guateng's O R Tambo International Airport and the Kruger National Park and
therefore makes an excellent destination for weekend breaks, conferences and
stop overs en-route. The local area offers a vast aray of activities and indeed
Mpumalanga has some of South Africa's most stunning scenry.
