King's Grant Country Retreat, originally built as a mission station for the German Trappist Monks, has been tastefully restored and decorated, salvaging it's authentic charm whilst introducing the luxuries of today's living. The majestic red brick buildings tower over indigenous and rose garden splendour and are complemented by the little stream winding it's way through the valley. Established over 100 years ago, King's Grant breathes a unique sense of peace and tranquility, inviting guests to take a step back in time and enjoy a well-earned break from the daily rush of life.
King's Grant offers tastefully decorated B&B accommodation, plus three fully-equipped self-catering cottages and a licenced restaurant for teas, lunches and dinners. The quaint chapel with original stained glass windows and ancient bell, seats up to 70 people, and is the perfect setting for an intimate wedding or the renewing of your vows. Wedding receptions and other functions for up to 140 people are held in the Tuscan-style Banquet Hall which opens onto a flower-filled courtyard. The original 'St Isidore Millworks' houses the museum plus a well-equipped conference center that seats up to 50 people.
On site activities include bass fishing, walks, canoeing and excellent bird watching, with over 200 different species having been recorded on the farm. The old 'Brickfield Buildings', overlooking a private little dam with an abundance of bird life, is a popular spot to relax with a sundowner or enjoy a delicious picnic hamper prepared in the King's Grant kitchen.
The
Ixopo area boasts a rich variety of experiences ranging from Wild Water rafting on the spectacular Mkomazi River (one of the best wild water rivers in South Africa), The Paton's Country Express which winds it's way through the rolling hills of Ixopo to Carisbrooke, made famous by the book 'Cry the Beloved Country', Mat's Art Studio and golf.
