KINGSBURY COTTAGE
Self Catering Cottage Accommodation
in Worcester, Breede River Valley,
Western Cape, South Africa
This first class self catering cottage is set on the foothills of the
Waaihoek Mountains, 36km from Worcester towards Ceres. Set on the edge of the
vineyards, one can enjoy stunning views of the upper reaches of the Breed river
valley and surrounds.
The cottage has an open plan living/dining area with exposed trusses. The fully
equipped kitchen for twelve includes a dish washer, washing machine & tumble
dryer. There is underfloor heating throughout the house and a cosy fireplace
will keep you warm in winter. Air conditioning and ceiling fans in all rooms
will keep the heat out during summer.
The cottage has two bedrooms, one with a queen size bed and the other with two
three quarter beds. There are two bathrooms, one with a shower and one with a
sublime slipper bath to relax in. Linen and towels are provided.
An office with wireless internet access caters for those that need to attend to
business matters. There is also a printer available. Guests need to bring their
own laptops though.
The living room is equipped with TV, DSTV, sound system and DVD player.
Outside there is a long "stoep" to enjoy the stunning sunsets and an outside
braai will keep the men happy after a long day's relaxation.
As the cottage is situated on a farm fairly close to the mountains, the roads
can get a bit slippery in winter. It is recommended that you use a vehicle with
slightly higher clearance to get there.
Situated in the wine lands, wineries are within easy reach for some wine
tasting. Try Bergsig Wine Estate, Waboomsrivier, Botha or Slanghoek Wineries.
The Bergsig Bistro (approx. 8km down the hill) serves excellent breakfasts and
lunches. Opstal Estate or The Mill & Oaks are also commendable restaurants
within close proximity.
The bird lover will be kept very busy as the surrounding garden is mostly
indigenous fynbos and attracts a large number of birds. The nearby dams also
provide some excellent bird watching. Bass fishing can be done in the upper dam
(bring your own rods) or take the kayak for a spin.
Hiking on the farm is very safe and for the more adventurous, the Witels hiking
trail starts on the farm. Access to the UCT Mountain and Ski club runs over our
farm, so if you are fit enough for the hike up the mountain, bring your snow
board along! (Pre arranged permits from UCT are required).
Silkbush is also the home of the annual Breerivier Mountain Bike Challenge and
mountain bikers can bring their bikes and enjoy riding parts of this trail.
In the town of Worcester (36km) you can visit the Kleinplasie Farm Museum,
showing the farming and household practises of yester year. The KWV Brandy
Cellar is the largest of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere and is well worth a
visit.
The village of Tulbagh (approx. 30km) has one of the most architecturally
fascinating main streets in the country. There are also a lot of fun restaurants
and pubs to keep you busy.
Kagga Kamma is about 180km from the farm and is an exciting nature reserve
focusing on the Bushmen way of life and offering tours to various rock art sites
in the area.
