keep it in the garage and please make sure that on your departure that the
cover is placed back. Please do not dive into the swimming pool.
The residents at Kei Mouth encourage nature conservation. We hope that Kei
Mouth would not become an over commercialized holiday resort in the future but
will keep it's natural ethos.
Please do not disturb any wild animals that visit the property, such as buck and
mongoose.
There are abundant fishing sites either for rock fishing, surf fishing, river
fishing and bass fishing. Please contact the Municipality to obtain fishing
permits.
Mussels can be harvested on the rocks. Please ensure that you abide to the
nature conversation rules. You may not harvest more than twenty five mussels per
person per day present on the rocks. Please ensure that you only harvest large
mussels. Nature conservation are pretty strict and do spot checks from time to
time.
Whales have been spotted from time to time, so keep a look-out for them. There
is an abundance of birdlife (as can be seen on the pamphlet attached). Should
you be interested in bird watching, a pair of binoculars is hanging against the
wall at the top sliding door. A reference book is available on the table. Please
record your sightings in the record book.
There are two shops in town. Both shops supply the basic necessities such as
fresh bread, milk and other items on a daily basis. There is also a liquor
store, a butchery and a crafts shop.
The Bushpig Bar / Restaurant is an informal bar/restaurant and a visit here will
be of most interest.
The Green Lantern Restaurant is a quant romantic restaurant that serves tasty
meals.
The Shed is approximately 4km out of town on the main road and provides
entertainment on Friday evenings.
The Country Club is situated at the golf course, and has a lovely ladies bar. In
addition to this, they serve excellent bar lunches. Meals must be pre-arranged
with "Tannie Liz". Daily membership tariffs are available for visitors. Please
advise the barman / manager that you are on holiday in our cottage.
The shell museum at the municipality offices calls for an interesting visit. The
Museum host a collection of very rare and interesting shells.
Access to the main beach is along the gravel road through the caravan park which
is approximately 100 metres from the house. See the sign board across the road.
There is a secluded "private" beach which can be reached by walking past the
tennis courts/bowling green following the path though the bush for approximately
200 metres, from the house.
Should you wish to play golf, the golf course is situated at the country club.
There are also squash courts available at the country club.
Tennis can be arranged through the local tennis club (by contacting the country
club). The tennis courts are across the road, directly in front of the house.
A bowling green is also available. The bowling green is situated next to the
tennis courts, directly across the road, in front of the house and they also
have a small bar.
Should you be of the adventurous kind and wish to travel to the Transkei, a
ferry service is available to cross the Kei River. The average cost is R50.00
per motor vehicle one way. Ensure that you are aware of the times when the ferry
operates. Also ensure that you have a map of the area. See brochure on places of
interest in and around Kei Mouth indicating the route to Seagulls and Trennereys.
Your visit to the Transkei should include Trennereys, Seagulls and the Jacaranda
wreck. You can also arrange a trip up the Gxara River at the Trennereys Hotel.
Contact Trevor Wiggill, at the Trennereys Hotel for these arrangements.
You can also take a trip up the Kei River on the Fish Eagle for approximately
five kilometers by boat. Take a cooler bag with drinks and food and ensure that
you take a pair of binoculars to view the bird life and the game on the river
bank. Speak to Andrew Baisley Estates in the main road.
A visit to Morgan Bay will definitely include a stop at the Morgan Bay Hotel
which has a lovely ladies bar. You can then proceed with the gravel road up to
the cliffs and enjoy the wonderful and spectacular views. Take a blanket, cooler
box and snacks and enjoy the views. Approximately two or three kilometers beyond
the cliffs, you will find Double Mouth, which is situated within a nature
reserve.
There is a narrow road which passes the Kei Sands Hotel to the Kei River mouth.
This road is known as “lover’s lane”. It provides a scenic drive / walk through
the sub-tropical forests. Just before reaching the river mouth, there is a path
to the left, into the tropical forests, which leads you to three viewing decks
up on top of the hill. An energetic walk will lead you to the top, where you can
experience the spectacular views. Once again, do not forget the binoculars!
Should you wish to do horse riding, this can be arranged at the stables just
beyond the Club on your right side.
We wish you a happy and relaxing holiday at Khoka Moya, where memories are made
and only footprints are left behind.
Enjoy your stay
